Magpie;

A term used to describe someone who really likes shiny objects, or who has a habit of stealing valuable things for their own hoard. It can be an insult or a term of endearment. “I’d bet Vermillion has it, she’s the magpie in this group!”

See-through/bad actor;

A term for someone who is a terrible liar, someone whose lie you can see right through. “Oh don’t waste our time with your lies, everyone knows you’re completely see-through!”

Silver-tongued;

This can have a lot of meanings so it heavily depends on the context. It could mean someone who’s good at storytelling or singing or someone who is good at using words to get themselves out of trouble, or someone who can lie very convincingly, or someone who is very charismatic. Or maybe someone just has a really nice voice. “Vanilla Pop and Carbon Duchess are both silver-tongued in very different ways.”

Smoke Signal;

When a member of a gang sends a signal that draws Dracs or rival gangs to their group’s location. It can be accidental but most of the time it’s a planned act of betrayal. “Oh shit, he’s sent a smoke signal, get ready for trouble!”

hey so I’m kinda new to all of the killjoy stuff but I’m curious what are the differences between the zones like physically and socially?

So, physically, the further out the more radiation there is. Zones 5 and 6 have more areas of radiation than any other. There's not so much to find in Zones 1 and 6, since 1 is most dangerous when it comes to BLI since it's closer to the City, and 6 has too much radiation.

Socially, the slang kind of differs, and some people have different attitudes. Some words, like Chapter 11 (meaning gay guy), are more used in certain zones - in this case it's Zones 4 and 5.

I'd love people to add to this with headcanons! Personally, I imagine that a lot of the people in the far out Zones are much older, the ones who can't fight so much anymore, leaving more room in the inner Zones for the kids to fight out.

I think that most killjoy gangs probably have a member who takes on the job of sewing and mending/fixing jackets, masks, etc. and they’re known as the gang’s fairy godmother!! Basically in charge of helping the joys in their crew have their cinderella killjoy transformation moment!! I also think that jet star was Definitely the fab four’s fairy godmother based on vibes alone

Snapping glowsticks - used often by ‘joys, is the equivalent of saying ‘they’re getting angry - they’re snapping glowsticks out here.’ Could also be used to mean ‘no need to get so angry - no need to be snapping glowsticks’.

Moon walking- traversing the desert at night, used to indicate emergency movement from zones or discovered shelters during nightfall.

Radio rust - when a ‘joys hearing is going due to constant exposure to ray-gun blasts or claps with exterminators. Symptoms include intensive ringing in ears.

Sand-stache - used in reference to when ‘joys (specifically with biker helmets) drive with their visors up, leaving sand to slowly gather around their mouth and lower face (appears to be moustache or beard like).

Roller-heads - Lone ‘joys who skate down Guano, dedicating their time to delivering messages/supplies to new desert rats or vindicated porno droids.

Thinking about how "milkshake" in juvie slang means either something mindnumbing or having been brainwashed depending if context (in the spirit of that if someone were to look into your head your brain would no longer look like one, but rather like strawberry milkshake), but in killjoy slag it means cool/awesome, basically the precursor of shiny despite having slightly different conotations

What if in the zones they also used killjoy slang to be sneaky/shady

Babysitter

(n.) Another term for a gang leader; if BLI was Mom and Dad, the gang leader is a babysitter, someone who takes care of Zone kids in a way BLI has failed to.
