do Gon for the character thing
oooooh ok! thank you! so again, bearing in mind I’m only up to Yorkshin (well, just finished) so things like Chimera Ant (?) which I have the feeling are significant, can’t be considered yet. All the same! (apologies, this got long...)
I relate to Gon a fair bit, and in some ways look up to his character traits. On that side of things I like the fact he’s brave, open, honest, mischievous, outgoing, intuitive and clever. He’s the kind of person who doesn’t see boundaries so much as bridges to be crossed, and I love that. He’s caring towards his friends, and protective of them. As a character I also find him fascinating! His drive, ambition and moral ambiguity are the things I find most interesting about him. Talk about iron will! And his willingness to pick and choose ‘morals’ as they suit (though I don’t think it’s quite so callous as that, more based on what he feels his right) is interesting. Plus the way he surprises people with his intelligence. And his affinity with nature. And him being slightly terrifying? In that superhuman strength/agility/resilience kind of way. That’s interesting. And his poker face! I like the fact that he’s reserved when in distress, he’s a very human character.
tl;dr lots of reasons. i love him
Hm, I haven’t seen much of it yet but I’m getting the impression he’s pretty selfish later on. That’s not necessarily a problem - flawed characters are infinitely more interesting than perfect ones and he’s a kid, for goodness sake. But it makes me worry, and sad for both him and his friends. Hmm. Sometimes he’s a bit needlessly reckless? Not so much something I don’t like (it’s sort of cute/hilarious) as something that makes me bang my head against my desk. Ditto with bouts of naivety.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Ooh, episode 1 was a great introduction, 30 felt like the proper introduction of badass Gon, 37 (domestic killugon omg), 50 (more Killugon but also quick thinking in tight situation, dealing with Nobunaga, dealing with Killua’s flashbacks), 57....So far!
I feel like each season of HxH is better than the last? So Yorkshin for now
- ‘Yeah, I’m not interested in the ball’ (#intuitive Gon)
- ‘Killua’s incredible, isn’t he?’ / ‘Both of them?’ (about assassin parents. I’m Killugon trash I’m sorry)
-"Being able to cry for his companion. I was thinking you couldn't cry, nor did you have a heart. But in that case why... even a little... don't you share that feeling... with all the people you kill !!" (#GonMorals)
Partly because it’s hard to imagine him without - standard green jacket and booty shorts? Though the little white vest/turtleneck thing he wore on Whale island was adorable! and the introduction shot of him hunting the lord of the lake with leaves etc was an awesome character framing scene
Kurapika, I think. I head canon that Kurapika/Killua and Leorio/Gon are similar kinds of people, but I also think having that counterbalance is cool and interesting and healthy (and I couldn’t say Killua again...)
Hmm, mostly physical stuff? Gon definitely has calloused palms and thick freckles and dark skin in my head. Also lots and lots of scars, from everything from death-defying battles to hitting his thumb with a hammer. I imagine him as quite a practical person, who likes to work with his hands? Like in another life I can see him as a carpenter/potter/blacksmith/gardener. And I do think he’d quite enjoy cooking, tbh.
I can definitely see where people are coming from with asexual Gon, but partly for indulgent and partly for personal and partly for sort of show reasons, I head canon him as pansexual. (And a dog person. Killua being an exception.) Likes spicy food. Drinks beer, not spirits, when he’s older. Fruit over chocolate. Terrible at video games, good at cards?
(He figures out he loves Killua first, but he leaves it because he doesn’t trust himself with the feeling until he thinks he’s ready to bear it and the commitment seriously)
Um? So I’m getting some hints people don’t think Gon cares about Killua, at least as much as Killua does him. I’m also getting the impression canon has a reason for that later, but for now I guess I don’t see it? I think they have very different personalities and that they express themselves in different ways, but I also feel like Gon goes out of his way to let Killua know how much he admires him
Killugon canon? Heh. I don’t care if it was some LoK ‘this is definitely there but also censors’ hand holding, just a little, just enough. And uh, a reunion, since I think I read somewhere they leave each other.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
Never sees Killua again. No wait. Finds Killua dead/ is found dead. No wait. Is unable to protect Killua/ can’t be protected. No wait, Leorio, Kurapika and Killua are killed and he walks alone, no wait, he walks alone anyway, no wait.... (oh god angst)
