Finished S3 of The Boys and I have some thoughts
Things I liked:
MM getting the chance to patch things up with his daughter and work out his traumas.
Hughie and Annie finally talking to each other and working things out. Personally, they could've done more and I really hope they have a moment where they sit down and have That Conversation about Hughie's insecurities, Annie's stress and desire to do the right thing and how it combats with Hughie's Butcher-inspired philosophies. But it's a good start to see Hughie apologize for being a dick.
Black Noir being useful for once.
Seeing Elena again.
Just a lot of bonding between The Boys as they help each other out. Scenes like this show how strong they really are as a united front and how much they all truly care for one another.
Crimson Countess. IDK, she's funny.
The Hughie-Butcher-Soldier Boy team up against Homelander at Herogasm.
Jamie.
The parody of the Pepsi commercial made me laugh harder than it should've.
THEY KILLED STORMFRONT FINALLY THANK GOD.
Supersonic, sans the jealous Hughie part. I personally think close platonic bonds between a MF pair are severely underrated in media so Starlight having a friend who kinda understood her plights in a different way was a nice touch. And honestly, he seems like a good dude.
I'm not crazy for Homelander's descent into insanity, but I do like the vulnerability he shows and the cracks in his facade as he tries to hold it all together. He's a very detailed character and I like how they show his inner turmoil.
Things I disliked:
The Deep. His story here just feels like a rehashing of his story in S2 minus the whole Church thing where everything he does is to impress Homelander/get back into the Seven. Could be because of his character in the source material barely doing much, but Deep here does not interest me in the slightest and I feel his character arc with the way it's handled now has no interesting plotline to tell.
A-Train. I do like how they go in with the comparisons to a cheating athlete with him, and I'm glad he has a different storyline here because his S2 one was way too similar to Deep. But it felt like S2 was indicating he might jump ship and I honestly wanted to see it happen because A-Train isn't much more interesting; he's doing what Deep does to stay in the Seven and keep Homelander happy despite the constant bullying. At least he finally apologized for Robin tho.
Supersonic's death. I feel like he had a lot of potential and his death was really wasted. It would've been nice to see Starlight have a friend in the Seven, especially after what happens to Maeve.
Black Noir's death. He was just starting to contribute to the plot and then he died.
Butcher. IDK it feels like he was much more nastier than usual this season and way more of an asshole. At times he was practically impossible to root for and really, I felt I only wanted him to succeed because Homelander was the greater of two evils and because he was on Hughie's side. I don't really like how it's Hughie's job to keep Butcher in check and I really wanted Butcher to move past that this season.
They could've had the guts to kill Maeve and Soldier Boy but I guess Maeve is kinda out of the picture anyway so that doesn't change much.
Overall, the pacing felt a little off? The trip to Russia barely happened, most of an episode is spent watching Hughie and Soldier Boy track down Mindstorm but he just quickly gets killed off at the end.
It was a pretty good season that had its ups and downs. However, I'm a little worried about the direction the show is headed in because some of the sideplots are starting to mesh together/overall wind up uninteresting. A few characters are starting to go from antiheroes to just straight up unlikeable, which makes me worry. There's still a lot of potential this show has, but it needs to be used properly.
BLINDSPOT DESERVED BETTER
The Boys: SN1.5
(DISCLAIMER: MY OPINION IS MY OWN AND CAN BE DEEMED INVALID TO THOSE WHO DON’T CARE FOR IT.)
Let’s see if there’s anymore freaky deeky stuff going on in this episode.
GOOD FOR THE SOUL
Only time will tell how this episode goes tonight.
Aye, we’re in Havana, Cuba ladies and gentlemen!
This music really has me vibin’
There’s no goddamn way STILLWELL said it was okay when you give her an ultimatum like that.
dang know she’s really digging her own grave for herself
Honestly, it was sad to see her go like that... RIP
It’s insane how HOMELANDER makes everyone feel as though the air is being sucked out of the room when he’s around.
That’s some tense shit my dude.
FRENCHIE made THE FEMALE a full home-cooked meal IF THAT AIN’T LOVE THEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS!!!
HER WINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
Finally, they have STARLIGHT back in her original costume.
How are you gonna ask someone how their flight is then cut them off by telling someone else something??? huh? Please help me understand the fuckery that ASHLEY is spewing?
EZEKIEL looks horrible.
“The security is tighter than a choir boy’s asshole.” - BUTCHER
ICONIC DIALOGUE
“Jesus! This is from that club you took me to?” - HUGHIE
“You remembered our first night together I’m touched.” - BUTCHER
HOMELANDER knows he could’ve saved everyone... this dude is really twisted.
Back to STARLIGHT
First of all, why are these kids asking her these dumb ass questions? If your friend is of another religion then you should respect that and not try to convert her to Christianity.
Second of all, the boy who asked her if she had a boyfriend is CLEARLY gonna be jackin’ off to the thought of her tonight AM I RIGHT?!?!.... that was extremely inappropriate... sorry...
Who tf is DRUMMER BOY??
If this is a joke then I don’t like it.
Third of all, who does this little bitch think she is asking STARLIGHT if she lost her virginity.
DONNA (ANNIE’s MOTHER) ain’t shit either.
This motherfucker really just landed down where STILLWELL is just to talk about this fucking speech. SMDH
“What you’re gonna run off and play strong single mom? Please, that baby is an accessory.” - HOMELANDER
...“We need to have boundaries.” - STILLWELL
Honestly, I’m surprised she didn’t want to give birth to a supe.
BUTCHER has rolled up at some woman’s house talkin’ about how he’s come across something.
SISTER-IN-LAW?!?
“Would you like some tea I got the English stuff?”
Side note: This cast was pretty good for the sisters. They look pretty similar.
“You got the right to remain silent bitch!” - POPCLAW
THE FUCKING TEDDY BEAR!!!!
OH, SHIT!!!! THEIR COVER IS BLOWN!!!!
Damn FRENCHIE has a lot of shit going on.
HOMELANDER is nosey af.
HUGHIE better not let HOMELANDER touch him.
I hope he took his phone out...
“Your blood pressure is 150 over 90 that’s a little high.” - HOMELANDER
LOL he knew HOMELANDER was gonna hold him down there!
AH FUCK HIS PHONE!!!
“You fucked me... yeah in a private supe club. You know the one on east 29th, secret lair I think it’s called... there was 3 of us coiled up, and you wrapped your stretchy arms around me and it was so fuckin’ hot; and your dick was so perfect and long stretchy and you played my butt like jazz with poise and skill and willingness to improvise.” - HUGHIE
“I have a video! I have a video of us suckin’ and fuckin’!” - HUGHIE
why do they always ask if they want money??
BUTCHER really fucked up that tombstone.
Here goes HOMELANDER fucking things up AGAIN.
I’m not gonna lie the way he floated in the air was lowkey kinda scary.
Who is this female that MAEVE is talking 2?
MAEVE’s an alcoholic?
Is she a lesbian??
Her name is LENA.
“Go back to HOMELANDER?”- LENA
Maybe she’s bisexual??/ What is MAEVE’s facade?
DAMN WELL THEIR DONE
So they're just walking through the hospital like it’s nothing. Damn people really don’t watch over anything these days.
DONNA please stfu
Ofc FRENCHIE is going to let THE FEMALE go.
I feel like STARLIGHT isn’t going to go through with the speech...
“if you have sex before marriage is not immoral it’s human. What’s not human is the guy who shoved his dick in my face.” - STARLIGHT
THE DEEP lookin’ real sick!!!
“I’m done pretending and I’m done taking any more shit.” - STARLIGHT
wow HUGHIE was really the only one clapping lol
THEY’RE MAKING SUPE BABIES!!
HUGHIE this is not the moment to be talking about Billy Joel at MSG.
go off STARLIGHT because he’s lowkey (well highkey) using you
These guys are just wasting bullets.
OH SHIT THE BABY!!!!!!!
“Now you keep your nose clean sunshine or I'll come back and stomp ya.” - BUTCHER
Didn’t this bitch just tell HOMELANDER that they needed boundaries but then she goes and pulls this shit?!?!
FRENCHIE’s on the move...
THE FEMALE’s got his back!!!
BLACK NOIR IS ONE BAD MOTHERFUCKER GOOOOODDDDDDDAMN!!!!!!!! JESUS FUCKIN’ CHRIST! HE DIDN’T HAve to CUT her LIKE that!!!!!
I was starting to like THE FEMALE they didn’t have to kill h... THIS BITCH IS LIKE WOLVERINE!!!!!!!!!!!
_______
This episode had me rollin’ I really am obsessed with this show!
@enigma-the-mysterious I can't reply in my post with images on mobile (or just don't know how) so I'll show you here. This is the little proof I have that Lamplighter is alive and well.
This is a picture that shows the team statues
In the background of the Lamplighter image released on Twitter is the Starlight statue added to the bunch and the Lamplighter statue missing. It's not hard proof, could just be a mistake for all we know, but the statues in the background indicate this image of Lamplighter is after the start of season 2.
Imagine an AU where Homelander was given to Maeve's parents meaning he grew up good albeit is jaded and suffers from burnout and alcoholism while disillusioned after the plane crash. Cue Homelander being the grumpy dad of the Seven with Maeve retired with the Boys being his spies watching corrupt superheroes. Also imagine him meeting Blindspot and Starlight and he's like "I've had these two for 1 minute and if anything happens to them, I will everyone in this room including myself"
So much would change that it's hard to imagine. Kimoko, Kenji, and Naqib wouldn't have powers, for one. What I am most interested in is how it would change his involvement in Capes for Christ. With Maeve being Bisexual (may be something else but that is how I interpreted it) Homelander would be accepting in this AU, and he would be strictly against Capes for Christ and their awful tendencies. Which is all well and good, fuck Ezekiel.
Honestly Starlight and Blindspot would have so much better experiences. The Deep would be thrown off the team for what he did the Starlight, if it even happened. And Blindspot would certainly join in the Deep's place. Starlight would get to wear her old uniform, Blindspot would get to be Homelander's surrogate son. I had the idea that Blindspot would be Ryan's older brother, but Ryan might not exist as Homelander wouldn't be a r*pist in this AU.
All in all, this AU is the Seven acting like they should be: heroes. It's a comforting thought, it's what Butcher says we all want to believe in the first episode of the show. But money and power breeds corruption, and if Homelander isn't the corrupt one someone will try to take his place. Granted he's so powerful that it would be hard to work against him. But I suspect Noir, Lamplighter, or Stormfront could maybe do it.
A very interesting ask, thank you!
The Seven
As Perler Beads
But imagine Butcher tells Homelander (maybe he's also running a program that deals with collateral damage and victims of superheroes) about the little club A-Train goes. Cue Homelander kicking the door down after Blindspot knocks out the guards with the music stopping and also finding A-Train causing an awkward silence with A-Train knowing he's fired as A-Train is like "I'll get my stuff tomorrow" then heads off as Homelander tells the public.
I'm imagining the follow through on that. Shockwave gets introduced to the Seven as the new member, and Homelander keeps joking about how "as long as you don't do drugs we're fine" with a smile, but makes Shockwave nervous in like that girlfriend's dad kind of way? And Blindspot is an absolute legend, a mad lad. Anything that boy does is perfect and I'm here for it. You go Blindspot, you get those guards
So what is our superhero team looking like? We got the siblings Homelander and Queen Maeve. We also got Blindspot, Shockwave, and Starlight. Who are the last two members? Deep and A-Train are out. Maybe Lamplighter? I have a theory that Lamplighter was forced to "retire" from the Seven because he was legitametly good and stood against Homelander, so maybe Lamplighter can stay with a good Homelander. I have no idea for the 7th member
