Weekly kimono! It has been a bit, I am sorry yall! Life kept me heckin busy for a while there. So I managed to get one last wear from my summer ro kimono and paired it with my crane obi. I finally have a coordination that I like with this obi, which is a pink obiage and green obijime. Something about it stays super fresh and keeps the purple kimono from looking washed out.
This is the last time I will be able to wear this kimono this year. Seasonality is a very big part of kimono kitsuke, so the fabric and weave of this kimono is specifically reserved for the high, hot summer. The next kimono you wear for a few weeks is hitoe, or an unlined kimono. Unlike summer kimono (usually called ro, sha, or asa, which are specific fiber blends and a see-thru weave) hitoe kimono are solid and arent distinguishable from awase except for at the opening of the sleeves if you can get the right angle.
Something new that I got to use today in my kimono dressing is my new juban! It's basically a type of underwear that prevents your body oils from getting on the difficult to clean silk of your kimono. My sensei bought me one from her trip to Japan and shipped it back. The sleeves are pink which is very cute and colorful. The sleeves also are detachable! That means I can get replaceable sleeves to swap out different lengths, like for a furisode! Very exciting stuff, yall.
Anyway, I'll try to be more consistent moving forward. See you next week!
