"Embroidered Cranes" Kakeshita Wedding Kimono 🖤⠀ https://www.kyotokimono.com/product-p/1118wedkimsl4.htm⠀ - - - ⠀ This is a vintage Japanese kakashita wedding kimono. The kakeshita typically has a lighter patterning or even a blank space at the waist which would be covered by the obi.⠀ - - -⠀ The design on this kakeshita is a sweeping collage of bright red cranes with plenty of gold, as well as plum blossoms in red and black (unusual). All elements are embroidered with a satin stitch and gold couching -so much masterful hand work! There's a touch of bright blue and light pink here and there, and the cream silk background features a lovely spider mum jacquard. The Sagano Bamboo Forest - Have you been here?⠀ - - - ⠀ I found this great article about it on CNN ➡️Kyoto, Japan (CNN) — "In Japan's Sagano Bamboo Forest, on the outskirts of Kyoto, towering green stalks of the famously versatile plant sway in the wind, creaking eerily they collide and twist, leaves rustling. The sun filters through the densely packed grove, projecting thin slashes of light onto the dozens of camera-clutching tourists shuffling down the wide trail that cuts through the middle of the forest as they awkwardly angle their shots, attempting to crop human forms out of their frames. Long gone are the days when you'd get this place to yourself when visiting Japan. Found this great article about the tradition of color in Japan, "The beginnings of the traditional Japanese color system can be traced back to the year 603, when Prince Shotoko established the first Twelve Level Cap and Rank System in Japan. Based on Confucian values and the five Chinese elements, this social ordering system determined rank by merit rather than heritage, and certain colors were used as symbols of rank in society, as in the photo." “Treasure carts” wedding kimono (uchikake). This uchikake features traditional imperial carts (gosho) scattered about the cream colored background. These "dowry carts" followed new brides to their new home with her husband's family. Bright red, green and purple carts - each hand-embroidered, not woven! - and lots of gold and silver accents.
