Shiro’s role in S7
Ok so @joking5 made me do it, lets get that clear first, throw her under the bus before I throw myself.
With the revelation that Shiro is no longer the Black Paladin I’ve been thinking about White Lion possibilities, and Altean arms, and Shiro angst, and then something occurred to me. Random pieces of trash meta floating in my brain connected, and then spawned something new.
We never saw Shiro at Oriande. It was Kuron, who we love and cherish in this house, but ultimately he was a clone. Not Shiro in the flesh. So we never saw Shiro’s face in the glow of the White Hole. And there have been hints at his links to the Alteans (see the end of this crack post).
So. I propose:
Shiro when we meet him at the start of S7 is not in a good place. The Olkari manage to remove the remnants of the Galran arm from his shoulder, but new tech won’t take, so he feels off balance and vulnerable, and he cannot fight hand-to-hand like he used to.
When it becomes clear Black will no longer accept him, and he is no longer a Paladin, Shiro loses his sense of purpose. Worse, he loses his sense of worth. Not even his bond with Keith can help. The scar on Keith’s face, Shiro’s memories of the fight, tell him he’s not worthy of that, either.
Shiro dreams of white light and flight and a voice in his head, but when he wakes it’s gone. He feels its absence as a physical ache.
By the time they get to Earth, he’s at his lowest ebb.
So when Sendak arrives and the Paladins sprint for their Lions, when Voltron is vastly outnumbered and losing badly, when the Paladins are screaming - Keith is screaming - and he is powerless to help, Shiro cries out in despair, and hears an answer.
Cue the arrival of the McFucking White Lion.
Shiro careens into the cockpit only to stop short and laugh at the cruelty of fate. There are two control levers and a console begging for a bayard, and he has one hand and no bayard at all.
But here is the voice in his head.
You have been Chosen. Only believe that you are worthy, and you can reach out and reclaim what you have lost.
But I’m not worthy, Shiro thinks. And yet.
In the darkness of the unlit cockpit Shiro remembers a man telling him he loved him. A man calling his name. A man who is calling his name now.
Shiro leaps into the pilot’s chair and thrusts out his right arm as it materialises outwards from his shoulder in glowing blue. The cockpit lights up in blinding white. Shiro slams his fist into the waiting console and turns.
The marks of the Chosen burn white on his face.
Voltron’s wings just got an upgrade, Space Angel is here to join the fray.
Where did this cray come from? -
There’s loads of meta about Shiro potentially being half Altean, and abandoned on Earth as an orphan. This mostly has to do with eye glow while bonding and working with the Black Lion, in a way that only Alfor and Allura have also been able to do. Even Keith didn’t manage it at the end of S6. (Here is an excellent meta on that: http://smolsarcasticraspberry.tumblr.com/post/175092239492/re-keith-supposedly-doing-the-eye-glow-with-the)
Shiro lacks a pre-Garrison backstory thus far, but he doesn’t seem to have any family. In fact, given that presumably he sees himself in Keith, his backstory is probably very similar.
Shiro’s armor in the DnD episode closely resembling that of Alfor
Shiro being an orphan in the DnD episode (I think)
Shiro being a fucking Space Angel
Shiro with his new hair and marks of the Chosen would just be peak Aesthetic
Am I doing this au right?
i love disaster gay shiro.
