Merlin knocked his knee against Arthur’s twice gently in a silent, but playful ‘ugh, royals’ gesture; he saw Arthur bite back grin before lightly kicking him in the calf to say shut up.

Arthur cleared his throat and gave a polite, kingly smile to the messenger boy. “Thank you, you may be dismissed, if that is all.”

Summary:

King Uther has had a rough week, and so he drunkenly decides to take a 2 day holiday.

Arthur is thrilled at his opportunity to temporarily become King.

That is until Uther announced that Merlin will act as King too.

In which two idiots are in love, and learn about what it takes to be a noble and honest leader.

Chapter Excerpt:

He looked down to see the molten gold moving through the veins in Merlin’s wrist, up his fingers and into Arthur’s.

He was putting his magic inside of Arthur.

This didn’t feel like any old spell, like when Merlin had tried to sedate him earlier. He could feel himself filling up. He could see Merlin when he closed his eyes and he could feel Merlin’s hands all over his skin. He could smell the scent of earth and herbs and fruit and as the magic coursed through his veins he could, Gods, he could taste Merlin’s lips on his own and Oh Gods, his heart was-

“Oh, Arthur…”

Arthur opened his eyes to see golden tears streaming down the Sorcerer’s cheeks. And he knew exactly what Merlin was feeling, because he was feeling it too.

The magic had reached his heart, where it allowed him to feel exactly how much Merlin loved him.

Guys I am nearly finished this god damn fic and writing it has been a fucking roller-coaster. Thank you all for your support ❤️
