I hate King... But I love him too. Let me explain. I absolutely hate his personality. He's so edgy and dark that I cringe every time I hear him speak. But I love his playstyle. And his weapon. I absolutely love scythes. It's my favourite weapon if all time. And the fact that he's low budget Diluc, who's my husbando... Fuck you King.

The thing about KING that surprised me is he doesn't believe in easy money. You'd think someone whose literal entire personality revolves around money would be grateful to just..... get money for any reason at all, especially for doing absolutely fucking nothing (because I know I would be) but he doesn't. There's three things I can think of off the top of my head that supports this.

There's his idle voiceline, Are you paying me just to stand around? He says it pretty angrily, so it's obvious he doesn't like that. He could probably think of fifty other things he could better spend his time on like gambling.

If you comb through his other voicelines (which I did, because I'm gay), you'd find out that he refuses to work with Mr. Kim on principle, yet IIRC he opens up the line by saying something like "I don't have anything against Mr. Kim, and I might even understand why he does what he does." This probably has more to do with his childhood, but I can also see it from the angle of "Mr. Kim is a businessman, and he makes his profit through others' hard labour. He doesn't put in any actual effort himself, so I don't like him."

When you unlock his logs, on the.... fourth or fifth day or so, he complains about the Ravagers, saying he doesn't like that they prey off of other, weaker people. This contrasts with his About Ravagers I (I think) voiceline, which says he knows some Ravager leaders because he does jobs for them from time to time..... but eh. Work is work, I guess. I'm pretty sure he literally says something along the lines of that, something like, "Well, they're paying, so whatever."

(The previous paragraph also indirectly supports the idea that him refusing to work for Mr. Kim has more to do with his past experiences than anything, because you can see there that he has no qualms working for an organisation he holds disdain for.)

Still, I think all this comes together to paint KING as someone with.... work ethic? I'm not sure if that's the right word, but again, he doesn't like easy money. If he gets paid, he wants to get paid doing something. If he gets paid, he wants it to be on his own merit. He doesn't want to be a charity case. At the same time, he doesn't want to exploit others. Others' hard-earned pay are their hard-earned pay; it's not his to take.

Since he thinks the only marketable skill he has is his combat skills, if people start thinking he's weak, then it's just like you said: his value as a potential hire would drop, his profits would decrease, and if it keeps spiralling downwards, he might even lose his job entirely.
