Strange Magic: Mods/Various
Mod-Manny here. I’m garbage, so I decided to write a multi-chapter fanfic based on those ‘Mythical Mod’ pictures I drew. It will feature various S.I./Canon characters, because we here at kqi are all self-insert garbage. If you want to blacklist this story, you can bl the tag “;Strange-Magic.” I hope you guys enjoy this garbage ride.

Prologue: The Adventure Begins
The witch sighed, reaching up to readjust her hat for what felt like the millionth time. "Guys, I think we lost Mary again."
"No shit," the fairy perched on her shoulder replied bitterly. "We haven't seen her in hours. I'm pretty sure she's dead."
"I don't think..." a soft voice came from somewhere around. Bat was hiding again, gone completely invisible to the other monster's eyes. Why she did that none of them knew, but they didn't really feel like questioning it anyway, so they just let her be.
"I'm just joking." Jeremy rolled his eyes, relaxing back to hang his legs over Paige's shoulder as his wings fluttered next to her ear. The witch shook her head a bit, turning to glare at the smaller creature.
"Well, don't. We don't know where she is, or what could have happened to her--did you see those giants earlier? What if one of them...?" She trailed off, not wanting to actually think about what could have happened to her friend. Mary was a sweet harpy, pretty trusting too. She tended to fly far distances--if she'd flown into the wrong territory, there was no telling what could have happened to her.
"I'm sure she's fine." Rosalin reassured her companion gently, placing a hand on the witch's unoccupied shoulder. The two exchanged an understanding glance, before Paige finally let out a sigh and looked away.
"Yeah, I'm just...worried, ya know?"
"We all are..." The snarky fairy quipped back, sounding a bit less vicious than he had a moment ago. "I might be making jokes, but I mean...c'mon. It's not like she's actually dead...right?"
There was shuffling nearby, drawing their attention momentarily. Two pointy ears poked out from beneath a floppy cloth hat, tilted down slightly in obvious anxiety, as Bat wrung her hands together. "I hope not."
Paige huffed, planting her hands on her hips. "Well, I think we should go look for her. It's just better than standing around here and speculating!"
An angry buzz whirled around her head for a moment, before a flash of red focused itself into the face of a very angry-looking fairy. "Whaddya want us to do about it, then? Search every corner of this place--oh, wait! We can't, because she can fly! The sky is a pretty big place to search, Paige!"
A retort hung on the edge of her tongue, filled with just as much venom, but before she could spill it a pair of hands had pushed them back, effectively knocking the fairy into a slight spin as he was shoved back. "Let's just split-up and look for her--then meet up back here!"
"Are you kidding? Meet up back here? What if we get lost looking for her?" Jeremy ran his hands through his hair, staring at Rosalin in disbelief. What was she even talking about? They could get killed that way!
"Trust me," the shapeshifter explained, keeping her palms up even as he crawled atop her fingertips, planting his face in his hands as he slumped down. "We'll find her faster this way than if we all just walked everywhere together."
"I..I'm really not good with directions." Bat tugged at her hat wearily, fear crawling across her features at the prospect of getting lost.
"You could come with one of us--" Paige offered, but the brownie very quickly shook her head. She was the eldest out of all of them--she could make it around and back on her own. It might have been a scary prospect, but she could do it...right?
"Suit yourself." The fairy quipped, fluttering closer to yank at her ear in an endearing way. Bat yelped gently and batted him away, but grinned nonetheless. Yeah, she'd be fine.
Cracking a smile of her own, the witch crossed her arms, feeling a bit more confident now that they had a plan. Granted it wasn't her own plan, but it was still something that could work. Probably. "Should we just split-up from here, then?"
"I guess so. You guys be careful, alright?" It was the most Bat had said in a while, but before anyone could offer any sort of response, she was gone again, completely invisible, save for the path of trampled grass that bent down under her path as she darted into the wilderness.
"Sure. Yeah, guys just. Be careful or something." Jeremy offered up a shrug, before taking off in the opposite direction, leaving a bright trail of discolored light behind him. He had no idea where he was going, but it didn't really matter. He could either find Mary, or...dunno, just look around. This was a pretty big place after all.
Paige watched the two smaller creatures depart in near shock. Well, that was fast. And had gone a lot smoother than she'd anticipated. Awkwardly, she cast a smile to her remaining friend. "I guess we gotta go, too, huh?"
Rosalin repeated the gesture Jeremy had left them with, only with a bit less sarcasm in her words. "I guess so. You, uh, just summon us or something if you need help, alright?"
"...Sure thing." An awkward tension filled the air, before Rosalin finally broke it by muttering a quick farewell as her body contorted into that of an animal. For a moment Paige leapt back from the shifting mass, only to relax when a dog unfurled from the mess of paws and teeth. It barked up at her, another goodbye she'd guessed, before turning and making a beeline down the hill they'd previously trekked up.
"Well...bye." The witch spoke to no one in particular, before turning her back on the moss-covered pile of rocks that marked their starting point, to head out on the adventure herself.
She just hoped Mary was alright.
Dunno if anybody still remembers the teleport AU, but here is a silly group drawing of the knights and my personal caretaker. (Taylor!)
I imagine they’re on a subway in this photo being stared at just a little. Whisper is cramped and wants the spotlight, but he can’t seem to get out from there. It was…for his own good.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--insert ten thousand years of screaming--AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Look at how cute this is! It’s so adorable it’s so pure and precious aaaaah.

Adventure ( Graham X Achaka )
Requested by Anon: written by Mod-Manny
This didn't feel safe at all.
But then again, what had he expected? Achaka was the type of guy who could shoot arrows across huge distances--and then climb across them with no problem at all! It shouldn't have been surprising that he considered scaling a the side of a mountain a piece of cake. For Graham, however, that piece of cake felt like about five cakes, and he wasn't even hungry. Wow, that was a terrible analogy.
Yet there he was, clinging desperately to a thin ledge on the side of a mountain, thinking about cake. If he were to fall...what a way to go that'd be. Cautiously, he glanced up, hoping that they were nearing the mountain's peak. It was getting pretty cold, and even though his cape was huge and warm most of the time, there was no way it could withstand temperatures like that. And definitely no way he could.
Was Achaka still in sight? He craned his head against the rocks, able to make out the blurry shape of a figure just before it leapt even farther upwards and out of his view. Yep, that was Achaka up there, making headway across the rocky surface like there was a dragon nipping at his heels. If there was any sort of danger up there ( other than the rock-goblins, of course ), Graham was sure he'd have already paid the price for it. He was an adventurer. Even more than that, he was a knight! But a mountain-climber? Not so much.
His arms were sore. His legs were sore. Everything was sore. Mountain-climbing wasn't nearly as fun as he'd imagined it to be. He'd expected there to be, dunno, a path or something? Surely there were travelers who had to cross the mountains to get to the nearby towns and kingdoms? Maybe there was one, and Achaka was just making them take the 'scenic' route.
That much was true about the terrain. Though it was dangerous, and very risky, the forest looked beautiful from where Graham hung. If he leaned out, just a bit, he could see the town they'd started from, surrounded by nothing but greenery, with the occasional river or lake along the way. The colors of the town were pale and lifeless compared to the landscape that surrounded them, but even in all the bland stone-grays and painted whites he could see the bustle of the townsfolk. A tiny mass of blobby colors, all shifting and intermixing with one another. For a moment he almost laughed. Everything looked so small from that height.
And he felt so big. The change in pace was nice.
Graham relaxed. He was high up, but there was enough of a ledge for him to stand on, with a few dents in the rocks to dig his fingers into. For a moment at least, he could take in the view. Even if the trip ended up with nothing exciting at all happening, he could remember this fondly. The sky was wide and blue, not a single cloud in sight. And even though it was cold, the sun still shone brightly, it's rays reaching out ever so-often through the chill to give him a glimpse of warmth.
He inhaled, feeling strength pool in his lungs. The air was crisp and clean, much different than the smoky and metallic scents that always seemed to fill the town. This was why he loved being an adventurer. This was why he wanted to be a knight--so he could see things, do things, and experience them like he was now. It was a wonderful adventure all on its own, even if it wasn't even completed. It reminded him of a saying he'd read about in a book once. 'It's not the endpoint that matters, but the journey.'
Wasn't that true? It couldn't have been any moreso for him. He was genuinely happy.
Smiling, he turned, planting his feet down as he crouched. With a whoop of joy, Graham leapt upwards, climbing after his companion with a newfound energy. He wasn't sure why Achaka had dragged him up here ( Then again, he could hardly understand anything Achaka said. It didn't really matter though, because he always followed after him without pause. ), but he was glad that he had.
The rocks passed under his hands and feet with ease as he clambered upwards, fueled by nothing but his excitement. Taking that breather had completely renewed him, and now he felt sure that he could do ( almost ) anything. It felt like it, with how quickly he was making progress. Even though he was still nowhere near Achaka that he could see of, he was getting steadily closer to some sort of cliff. If he could just reach that, then maybe he could sit down for a while, and take another break before heading upwards again to try and catch up with his friend.
A slow burning started up in his arms again. Turns out that rush wasn't going to last as long as he'd hoped. Feeling exhaustion creeping up his legs, Graham slowed his climbing, hoping to just make it before his knees gave out. Another jump, and--he just missed it. The thin ledge beneath his toes crumbled a bit, nearly sending him toppling over as he tried desperately to steady himself. That was another thing about being so up high: the higher he was, the farther there was to fall. Graham squeaked, wobbling awkwardly before he finally tipped onto his face, hugging the rock in front of him in fright.
Okay, so no more of that. He was going to have to crawl up there, since a jump just wasn't going to cut it. Things didn't look too steep from where he stood, so maybe there wouldn't be much trouble. He hoped so, reaching up to grasp another handful of stone. As soon as his palm touched the rough surface, however, it suddenly reared back, leaving him swiping at air. Graham nearly jumped backwards, only able to stop himself from doing so in time to remember that there was nothing around to catch him if he fell. Did...did the mountain just move?
Curiously, he reached up again, and poked the strange rock. Again, it shifted, but this time a sound came with it. And a body. Four limbs unfurled from some unseen place, poking out between the jagged edges of stone to claw at his outstretched arm with ferocity. Graham jolted and leaned back out of the goblin's reach, a bit relief mixed into his fear. Rock-goblins were dangerous, sure, but if the mountain had been moving--that would have been much scarier.
The tiny creature shrieked something at him, sounding more disgruntled than truly angry. He guessed maybe it'd just been napping, and he'd woken it without realizing. Awkwardly he reached up, keeping on hand clutched to the stone wall, another offered palm up in apology. "Sorry! I didn't know you were--I'm just moving towards the top. It won't happen again!"
There was no way to know if the goblin actually understood him or not, because it merely hissed and scuttled away, scaling the wall horizontally with a speed that made Graham worried. If there were more of those guys out here, then there was a good chance that he could find a less-than-patient one that wouldn't take his excuses so mercifully. He had to get up onto that ledge and find his companion--fast.
"Hey, uh--Achaka!" It was just a dumb try, but if the other knight was anywhere near him, he wanted to know. "Achaka? Hello?"
Silence. Just for a few seconds that was. Then, without warning, from somewhere above him came a loud, affirmative, "Affa-Nata!"
Oh good, he wasn't alone. And better yet, Achaka was up on the ledge, from what it sounded like. Those were two worries he could cross off of his list. Sure it was just a dent in all of his other worries--the goblins, for one. The height he could fall from, for another. Angry birds pecking him to death. A gust of wind dragging him off the side of the mountain. There was a lot that could happen, and Graham found that he didn't feel as happy as he had before.
Pushing himself upwards, while using what little footing he had, he managed to grab hold of the edge of the cliff. It was another relief, until he realized his legs were dangling over absolutely nothing. Feeling another wave of fear wash over him, Graham called out again, trying not to let his voice crack too horribly. "Uh...Achaka? A little help?"
After a moment of being left there to dangle, and feeling himself growing more and more frightened with each passing second, he watched a gloved hand lower itself down, fingers outstretched in his direction. Gratefully, Graham grabbed it, and allowed Achaka to yank him upwards to safety. The feeling of a solid surface beneath his body was enough cause for him to crumple, and he sank to his knees next to his friend, finally allowing the pain that'd been building in his limbs to take over.
"That was...fun." He wheezed softly, rolling his shoulders to try and alleviate some of the sore burning in them. It didn't do much, but it still felt nice to at least be able to relax his arms. "Not sure if I'd do it again...but definitely a nice memory to think about."
Achaka remained silent next to him, reaching out to readjust the lopsided cap on his head. The smaller male smiled calmly, shaking his head when the metal fingers moved up to pull his feather back into place. Exhausted, he crawled closer to take his place next to the quiet knight, before allowing his head to slump against his companion's arm in a less-than graceful way. It was pretty cold, but like before, every so often, the sun would shimmer across them both, casting a fraction of light and warmth their way. So it wasn't too bad.
A nudge against his shoulder caught his attention. Sleepily he grunted, leaning up to follow the arm that the other had pointed outwards, to the horizon before them. It was much farther than what he'd seen before. The treetops seemed to stretch out forever, covering the land in nothing but green. He couldn't even see the town anymore, just a small blob of white and grey. While the smaller view had been filled with more details, this felt almost sacred. It was like a painting come to life, and they were the painters. His jaw hung open, and in excitement he whirled around to face his friend in joy--only to stop short as he felt his breath being pulled away for a second time.
He hadn't noticed it before, but under the light Achaka's armor almost seemed to glitter. A purely silver sheen that seemed to pull the rays to it, illuminating the knight in a way that...well, made him look pretty majestic. Graham sort of wished he had his own suit of armor, but if he could hardly make it this distance in just normal clothes ( and albeit a very large cape ), then maybe it was best that he go without one. As he stared at the knight beside him, a warm fuzzy feeling curled around in his stomach, pouring across his face in a small wave of heat. Even so, he could feel his smile only growing.
This was an even better view than the forest.
Imagine the Knights finding out about mistletoe and getting super curious because they think it’s magically infused with some sort of aphrodisiac that compels people near it to kiss, when really it’s just a tradition.
Graham is beautiful.

Well, I guess if we’re doing this whole ‘headcanon about armorless knights’ thing, then we should get started! c:
Personally, here’s how Mod-Manny views each knight without their armor:
Achaka: Tall, dark, and handsome. Quite literally. I like the idea of his hair being in some sort of braids, possibly dreads. Maybe he wears beads or other intricate sorts of things in it. I also like the idea that he could have a lot of scars, and possibly wears war/tribal-paint on his face ( or full-body, no problem with that either, eyyyy ).Also he has facial hair.
Acorn: Gosh gracious I love destroyablehorse’s Minotaur Acorn. That design is straight up pretty much how I think Acorn would look.
Whisper: I’ve seen so many good ideas for Whisper. Once, I even saw that someone headcanoned him as a peacock. A peacock. It was brilliant, and made a lot of sense. For me, though, I think he’s just like every stereotypical knight imagined. Brawly, big-chin, and blonde-hair. But peacock Whisper is a good idea, too.
Manny: *aggressively chants ‘goblin manny’ over and over*
