Bombus terricola. Â This bee's cousin is the only endangered bee species in continental North America, B. affinis. Â And. B. terricola has undergone enough population drops that it has become a candidate itself. Â Fortunately, there are signs it is recovering and new records are showing up in localities at the edges of its range (a good sign). Â So, while not out of the woods, it appears our little short faced friend may not wink out. Â Want to help? Â Create, restore, augment open meadow environments. Â As generalists they will need to have bloom available from early spring to early fall. Â Â

Ellyllo are digimon androgynous animesque non-furries that begin life as cute, near featureless orbs of flesh. Their whole body is made of a material (tryllo (itâs magic)) distinct from the stuff the rest of the world is made of (lĂŒxylld (or just âmatterâ)). When tryllo touches lĂŒxylld, which air happens to be, it hardens. This process is what forms an ellylloâs skin, which is just a firmer layer of the same stringy putty that makes up most of the rest of them. It also generates a little bit of heat, which is the only thing that keeps newborns from feeling entirely like little gelatinous ice packs. The proper illusion of body heat develops when their skeleton does, which is still a few years off at this point. On that note, ellyllo are born boneless!
The center of a In newborn ellyllo (which are called Kips, by the way, for the little sounds they somehow make) is a silvery packet of fluid, in which three âpearlsâ are suspended. These are the most vital structure in an ellyllo of any ageâs body, called the Niatha or Ellyllopearls. All three together form one whole individual, independently they retain knowledge, calculate opinions, and experience need. Initially they are housed in the same fluid container, which receives undiluted stimuli from all nerves, resulting in a sort of âtotal synthesia,â where all stimuli are interpreted by all senses to an equal degree. A kip hears, sees, smells, tastes, and knows the blanket itâs being held in just as much as it feels it. When they grow up and more volume becomes available the pearls are moved further apart, allowing them to interpret data separately and gradually dispelling the daze of infancy. As one might expect, kips are prone to over-stimulation, perhaps accounting for their... odd demeanor.
The fluid core is always about 33°f in healthy individuals.
Kip eyes are solid black at birth, just as their flesh is some shade of indigo-violet. Thereâs nothing keeping the eyes fixed in any one position on the babyâs surface, and their position can easily be changed by shifting the surrounding skin. The closest thing they have to an anchor is a thread-like nerve connecting them to the fluid core, which is only barely thicker than the other nerves that saturate their flesh. Their attachment becomes much, much firmer later in life, but the eyes of kips pop out easily.
