Johan Barrios, "Encounters."

Currently on view at Kirk Gallery in Denmark is artist Johan Barrios's solo exhibition, "Encounters."

Of the new body of work, Johan explains: “This exhibition strives explore the subjective greatness of the being that is freed from any weight and embarks on a lightness that distances and isolates it from all kinds of emotion and expression. The figures are almost sculptural, inanimate objects that lack any chromaticism or distraction. As they pass through the space that frames them, they find themselves colliding with each other. Every piece has as a dreamlike scenario where the dream is the place where these “encounters” happen."

"My work uses the drawing as a medium that allows me to explore my continuing interest in concepts such as time, movement and space, as well as the notions of solitude and intimacy. Starting from a permanent balance between the materiality of the processes and the definition of figuration in the contemporary context.”

Case Maclaim’s “Be A Mensch.”

Recently on view at KIRK Gallery in Denmark was Case Maclaim’s exhibition of new works, “Be A Mensch.”

“With the pressure of creating a solo show, you have to know what you wish to express. I am so used to create murals on the spot, in different settings, different countries, all while being judged and looked at by bystanders and visitors, fans and neighbors. Working in the studio has become really challenging and very different and lonely at times. The similarities in both my indoor and outdoor works, is that I wish to create not only a canvas or a mural, but a chance for the viewer to tell their very own story, with my paintings as a source of inspiration. The topic I chose for my current canvases is Being A Mensch. A Mensch, is someone with a noble character, a person of dignity and a sense of responsibility. A Mensch is someone, I desire to be. A Mensch is what I want all my canvases to represent.

I painted all eleven canvases with the intent to show what being a Mensch means to me.

Telmo Miel's "Together Apart."

Opening on March 12th, 2022 at KIRK Gallery in Denmark is artistic duo Telmo Miel's 10 year anniversary exhibition, "Together Apart."

From the gallery: "For the last ten years they’ve spread joy around the world with an enormous number of murals in more than fifty countries and almost all continents."

And from Telmo Miel themselves: "Society seems on the hunt for meaning, for what has value. Re-inventing traditions & machines, re-evaluating subjects & words. Re-viewing governments and set rules. We’re essentially attempting to re-define our existence, by placing importance on new or other things. Life in a nutshell; ‘Evolving’. 

Though it feels a bit forced and at times somewhat hypocritical; Involving a lot of pointing fingers, when a mirror does not seem to be around. 

Connections should be made, but individualism, quarantines and the glorification of independence seem to stand in the way.

In a pandemic like we’ve seen up till now, people are stagnated due to isolation and in-activeness.

When people don’t do, they think. When conversations with others are growing smaller, individual convictions start to increase in size.

Differences grow. Understanding declines.  Surprising as communicating is so easy nowadays.

And now here we are; Together, after being apart way more than usual.”

Ian Francis's "Ancient Rites & Rituals, Begun Again."

Currently on view at KIRK Gallery in Denmark is artist Ian Francis's exceptional solo exhibition, "Ancient Rites & Rituals, Begun Again."

“In this show," Ian explains, "I wanted to explore the dissonance of returning to regular patterns of life after the forced hiatus of the recent lockdowns and pandemic. I've always been interested in the strangeness of the moment of history we're living through.

There are so many things that I take for granted and give little thought to despite them being unique to our current time. Despite the relative brevity of the lockdowns, returning to that world after spending time away from it can seem jarring, the customary patterns of the pre-pandemic world strange and unnerving.

I'm not interested in depicting quarantines or COVID, but I am interested in the perspective the time period gives to our everyday lives, the isolation, detachment and uncertainty of the now.”

Fintan Magee’s “Days Grow Longer” at KIRK Gallery.

Opening on March 20th, 2021 at KIRK Gallery in Denmark is artist Fintan Magee’s solo exhibition, “Days Grow Longer.”

From working-class subjects to environmentally-focused commentary, the Australian artist has emerged as a unique figurehead for the socially-conscious twenty-first century muralist community and is often referred to as a social realistic painter.

As a common basis for the upcoming show, Magee’s works are a product of a time with travel restrictions, leaving Magee confined to working in his Sydney studio for an extended period; consuming current discourse solely through the lens of broadcast and digital news media. Unable to travel, converse with a wider audience, photograph models for narrative works, or visit museums for reference and inspiration, Magee's usual ability to settle on a central narrative or theme was stifled.

Magee began to search for inspiration and references in the world around him, his studio. A pot plant became his subject, and remaining true to his methodology, it was photographed, becoming the 'still life' of a daily ritualistic act.

“These works were made during a hotel Quarantine period in Western Australia. Each work took a day to make and represents a day of quarantine with each painting acting as a tally mark and becoming a daily mediation. The shift in focus to the physical act of painting over concept development lead Magee to begin to make sense of the state of chaos and isolation that he and the world were experiencing.”

HERAKUT’s “Mixed Feelings” at KIRK Gallery.

Opening on Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at KIRK Gallery in Denmark is artist duo HERAKUT’s solo exhibition, “Mixed Feelings.”

In a narrative imagery, the work of Herakut takes shape in a very unique expression where Hera's sensuous but rough strokes define the shape and proportion of the artworks, while Akut adds the photorealistic details.  The further process is determined jointly by the two artists.

With the show being a mix of collaboration and solo pieces, you’ll also be able to find these extravagant features performed separately.

While Hera is classically trained working with a mix of medias, Akut is autodidact and works only with spray.

Bridging the gap between the two methods, the duo has accomplished a completely distinctive expression known worldwide.
