A banned book list is a reading list
If you don't know where to start pull up a banned list and start reading
"for lilah: smash the patriarchy, sweetheart"
hahahahahah you don't know what's in store for you yet, but if you continue reading after this, the next thing that's gonna happen is that you're gonna find yourself bawling your eyes out, crying in the bathroom floor, staring at the ceiling for hours and much, much fun stuff
What's a book (or books) you've read that you think about often, even weeks/months/years after reading it?
the thing about amir…
it was never about hassan, or baba, or sohrab. he was selfish from the beginning. he let Hassan take the blame for everything. He remained selfish. Trying to force his father into chemo, just to keep him around. Adopting Sohrab, bringing him to America. It was never about them.
It was always about him. He was selfish from the beginning, and by the end, he didn’t change. He’s just constantly stuck in this meaningless cycle of trying to make it up to Hassan, and trying to live up to his Baba’s legacy.
It’s not a story about redemption. It’s not about repentance. It’s not about war. It’s about Amir. Every step of the way, it’s him, him, him. And the SAME him. From when he leaves the alley and runs away from Assef after watching Hassan be raped, to when he marries his wife, to when his father dies, to when he comes back to Afghanistan, to when he saves his half-nephew. The Kite Runner is a story about selfishness.
i am not the same person i was before these books

And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone does too.

The rest of my life might have turned out differently if I had . But I didn't .
