Kitekite Falls in West Auckland
Kitekite Falls Track
Kitekite Falls. And Kiwis build the most random houses I have ever seen. Honestly, was the architect drunk? Or randomly remembered: “Oh, we might need another room. Lets put it.... mh, over there,”
Roadtrip around the country with a shitty tent was the best month of my life

My grandmother leapt! over! rocks! like the badass superhero she is. I tried to stand awkwardly on a rock, and ended up slipping instead... on plus side, the water in NZ is really clean, and one of the fun parts of Kitekite is that a lot of people use the bottom of the waterfall as a swimming hole.
The girl in yellow is my friend @chippokenabokura. :) In what I thought was a rather Studio Ghibli, mystical woodland-esque shot -- like Totoro might jump out at any moment.

I went with a friend’s family and also! my 80yo grandmother! My grandmother is a badass superhero. My grandmother is super fit -- she routinely walks the 1.5 hours to her weekly dance and singing classes instead of catching the free bus. And it’s so wonderful that extends to, apparently, hiking three hours through the bush. This is not an easy trek either. The path is not always well-defined, especially in the higher sections closer to the waterfall. Narrow dirt paths + parts that literally require you to jump over rocks in a moving stream. This gets a 3.7 on the Scale of Unfitness.
