Yeah, their sentiment is understandable, but not good in practice imo. They want you to be safe from bullying, but at the expense of your identity--which sounds very important to you!

Obviously, weigh up what you want to do in the end, but also don't let anyone else control what or who you are. I think it's cool you've decided to be you, even with all the stigma against you!
