Random Fact of The Week 6/10
This fact was inspired by a few asks from earlier this week and are something that I’ve never really touched on before. After the requested split following the 1872 Miyako Odori, Yachiyo Inoue III picked eight neighbourhoods to make up the new Gion, now known as Gion Kobu. They’re named: Hanami Cho (花見町) Yuraku Cho (有楽町) Motoyoshi Cho (元吉町) Hashimoto Cho (橋本町) Kiyomoto Cho (清本町) Yasaka Cho (八坂町) Sueyoshi Cho (末吉町) Tominaga Cho (富永町) You can still see the names of these neighbourhoods on the sashigami that are presented to businesses to mark the occasion of a misedashi or erikae ^^
