if i don't get lesbian sturges x deacon injected into my bloodstream by next week , there's no telling what i might do to the world . why has no one ever thought of this before ? sturges would be such a fucking hot butch lesbian are you KIDDING

the lingering glaucous gaze of the woman before deacon made the spy feel small , as though she were shrinking at an alarming rate . it was a feeling she'd felt often enough to be familiar with , the metaphorical pass of pleasantries an indication that this was a feeling she'd given name to . but this time it didn't scare her .

if deacon had to be honest with herself (and lord knows she wouldn't) , she didn't mind the sunlight in january feeling of being the sole object of sturges' focus . in a very terrible way she yearned for it . every second she spent away from sanctuary hills was one wasted on pining for the illusion of security that being with sturges provided . and deacon knew this was very , very bad .

sturges was larger than life it seemed ; a thundering voice (that deacon knew was capable of gentle reassurance) accompanied by the kindest of steely eyes (that deacon never felt the need to pry off of herself) , an unrelenting pillar of misplaced affection and misguided compassion . deacon knew she was out of reach , despite sturges insisting on the contrary , and that just made the smaller woman want to tug her closer .

what deacon knew about herself wouldn't be enough to deter sturges if she were privy too . deacon understood this well enough by now . she despised the fact , running from it like the coward she was until sanctuary hills disappeared on the horizon and left her alone . at least she was a coward who didn't want the southern butch to get hurt . at least , in her heart of hearts , deacon knew she was a coward that loved sturges more than the english language could describe .

but for now , deacon swallowed her mangled protestation of sturges' endearment to her like a mouthful of broken glass . she willed herself to look into the mechanic's eyes through the shield of her shades , to smile like she wasn't afraid of what returning sturges' affection would do to both of them . politely , deacon's lover declined to give thought to the knowledge that her belle was a liar . the cardboard-sturdy illusion of safety would be enough for now , at least for a day until deacon decided to flee again after catching herself with three simple words weighing on her tongue .

everything in the world came down to what deacon knew in the end , everything sturges didn't . deacon was a coward who let herself love another in the selfish hopes that it was another secret she could lock within her chest forever . she was a sucker for the easy smile of a big southern butch , weak against the genuine interest she had in deacon . above all else though was the simple knowledge that sturges , genial and sweet , loved deacon knowing she hardly knew a thing about her . that , for the time being , would have to be enough .
