TW: Death of a loved one and Child loss

You knew it was going to happen eventually. They were human after all, their lives are short, nothing compared to Faes.
You sat quietly in the grass, placing flowers on top of the gravestone, the cold stone grazing your hand. A picture of your child rested against it, a bottle with cinnamon incense sticks lit sat next to it. Their death still stinging after nearly 300 years.
“So this is why you told me to bring flowers.” A solemn voice says from behind you. You nod unable to turn your eyes away from your child to see your dear friend Lilia Vanrouge. He was there when you first became a soldier. The two of you working alongside each other for years, an unstoppable duo.
“Humans lives are too short.” He walks closer, setting the bouquet of yellow tulips, black roses and white chrysanthemums onto the ground, the colorful petals resting against the stone.
“Lilia.”
“Hm? Yes?”
“Do you think this pain in my heart will ever go away." You clutch your chest, your eyes becoming misty, vision blurring.
"No, it will always be a dull throb."
You hum in response, deep down knowing the answer.
"You never did tell me how you found them."
"It’s a long story."
"Well we have nothing but time." He sits next to you crossing his legs, his eyes sparkling with interest. You go quiet for a minutes, the night breeze leaving behind whispers.
"It was nearly 400 years ago, I was barely into adulthood, and I thought I would take on a human pet. So I did. At the time you could merely buy a human pet, so I went to a shop. I looked at all the children and the one that stuck out to me was the littlest one. My little star was the cutest little bundle of joy. Over time they became even more lively, though they had their problems. They used to find the dark frightening and would make me sit with them throughout the night.” You smile, staring off into the sky with a wishful, solemn look.
“Ah, similar to Sebek. He used to demand for me to check under the bed and in the wardrobe for monsters.” He chuckles, his laughter similar to a bell.
“Children are so…soft and naive when they’re young. It’s those moments that you think about for the eternity of their lives. It’s what you see when they’re all grown up when they finally achieve their dreams.”
He hums in response.
“In fact when my little star finally got that job they wanted, all I saw that day was a memory from when they were about 2. They had just had come back from being outside and had brought me this little shell from a snail. It was adorable, they had the biggest smile on their face, ear to ear.” Your smile was no longer solemn, it was a genuine happy smile. Lilia can’t help but smile, he hadn’t seen you smile in a while, not a genuine one anyway.
“I’ll forever miss them. They were my first and last child. They hold a piece of my heart directly in the middle, the rest of my heart aches without them close.”
