Bonus Word Of The Week - Saturday 1. 3. 2025

I decided I'm going to sometimes make a bonus WotW, whose only purpse as of right now is to showcase some words from outside the canon vocabulary. Anyway, today's bonus WotW means

Train

noun, masculine

Etymology: From ríllir, meaning "to drag, to pull, to haul". Out-of-universe: a calque of the Czech "vlak."

This word is from the Kolic Modern Extension (KME), which I make so that I can practice Kolic by trying to think in the language, which inevitably includes thinking about modern concepts.

It is important to note that KME isn't a separate language from Kolic, and it's definitely not what Kolic would look like if it underwent language change into the present day. It is simply a set of words that are meant to fill the semantic space that wouldn't be filled by the canonical Kolic lexicon. All of the grammar is the same, and all of the words that exist in canonical Kolic also remain the same.

Example sentence:

Þaja tanna gär jäínjä, äða laja tanra gär ríljä, jätanriei ór.

English: Now I'm going to the station, and then I'll get on the train, when it comes.

Gloss: now go-F.ATEM 1SG station-SG.LAT and then go-F.FUT.PFV 1SG train-SG.LAT arrive-M.FUT.PFV=when 3SG.M

Word-for-word translation: Now go I station-to, and then will-go I train-to, arrives-when he.
