If you’ve ever wondered whether swatching is essential, check this out. Both handspun yarns are light DK weight & in skein seemed pretty equivalent. In swatch however, the yarns feel and drape different.

But most importantly, you can see the difference in the lace. Left photo I’m doing yarn over’s the way I was taught as a kid as the ‘normal’ way, but it did not look like the pattern photos I was swatching for. Turns out I was taught wrong & this whole time I’ve being knitting twisted yarn overs! Right photo is when someone in my fiber community corrected me. I would never have known this if I hadn’t been swatching!

Some improvised hats and the swatches I based them on. First time doing this kind of thing, they’re not perfect but now I have rough drafts and some ideas on how to improve them! Figuring out nice decreases is definitely the most challenging part for me. I’m not so sure about that diamond cable, that segment is so wide I don’t know how to make it come together yet. Still good enough to wear though!

Swatch experiment. 2.25mm needles, random second hand yarn of unknown fibers and the tiniest weight. Using that colorwork technique that only does one row of color at a time and skips stitches of the other color (name escapes me atm). Verdict: so goddamn annoying. The tiny yarn is annoying to hold and knit with, the fiber content doesn’t slide nicely over bamboo needles (feels like an acrylic maybe), the pattern requires so much concentration that it’s just not fun. I like how it looks but even doing the swatch took me several months of avoidance before giving up.

My swatch for my Astarion sweater came out fantastic. I'm super excited to share progress as I make it.

This will be the most technically advanced sweater I have ever attempted. It includes but is not limited to: combination knitting, 3 color colorwork and steeking. I've never cut a piece of (finished) knitting ever in my life! But I'm excited to try! All for my favorite bastard boy.

Well I lost all interest in knitting, and indeed everything for a while, but recently I’ve been inspired again. I started listing some of my less preferred yarn on ebay and realized it was such a pain I’d rather just find a way to use it up 😅 So since I have so much of it in a gazillion colors, I’m trying some new things and making as many swatches as I can stand. Might assemble them into a blanket or a bag when all is said and done. I have also been wanting to sell my knits for a long time but a lack of original patterns has held me back—maybe this will help get the creative juices flowing 😊
