Hi guys! You guys can call me Freddie! I’m 19 years old, I use she/her pronouns and am a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
I have really bad mental health problems - anxiety, depression, all that fun stuff. And my friends and I refer to those problems as Norbert. It started off as a way for me to be able to talk about it in public without people (including my family) knowing what I was talking about (i.e. “yeah Norbert’s visiting. Being a bit of a bitch too”).
One way that I deal with Norbert is through knitting - which is something that I have known how to do forever, but only recently took up again. I have been enjoying it so much and it has helped my anxiety so much that I thought that there was a chance that there’s someone out there who was feeling just as lost and scared as I was of their brain and I wanted to be able to be there for those people - so I created a blog!
You can find my proper blog over on knittingwithnorbert.com on which I basically have been posting my current projects, past projects and will be talking about some of the things I go to on a day-to-day basis with my mental health. I want to be able to bring awareness to these things so that anyone who is feeling a little lost with it all who happens to stumble across my blog can see that they’re not alone, they’re not the only one going through all of this, and I want to be able to help people take the first steps into getting help or being able to look after themselves.
I am in no way a medical professional. I just have shit mental health and a small talent for knitting and I wanted to share that with people who might need it.
Some examples of my previous knits are Nemo, a graduation koala named Karolina, a bunny called Lila and some chemistry themed gifts for my old teacher
I also have a much longer-term project on the go at the moment, which you can also find on my blog and Instagram, which is a Dream SMP-inspired blanket, where I’m planning on making a 15x15cm square for every character, including those from Tales from the SMP.
At the moment, I have only finished the four Sleepy Bois squares, they were my first attempts ever at creating my own patterns and I’m really, really pleased with how they turned out!
Though I will definitely be redoing them in the future to neaten them up and make them look a little nicer once I have improved my pattern-making skills a little more!
I wanted to bring this to Tumblr too, because I’ve been on it for fucking forever (swear to God once you get on Tumblr you literally cannot leave) and so I’m aware of the community on here! And I figured if there’s anywhere that I’ll get some interaction, particularly relating to my blanket, then it’s here!
So if you have any suggestions about what I should do for the blanket, what squares I should do then please let me know! If you have anything related to what I’ve spoken about above that you want me to go into more depth about, perhaps as a full blog post then also let me know!
