Here are two odd, old, electronic toys that I used in the making of my new James Kochalka Superstar album Ghost Walker.
Electroplankton, a Japanese-import cart for the Nintendo DS where you use little microscopic animals to semi-randomly create atmospheric music, and Merlin, a 1978 Parker Brothers electronic toy that had a very simple music composition app.
I used Electroplankton on the song Everyone Get Happy Now, and I used Merlin on Circuitry in Love and SongBot Sings Live with Merlin (which is like a medley of super short songs, with stage banter in between). The Merlin songs were all originally recorded for an early, unreleased version of my video game "Glorkian Warrior: The Trials of Glork" (currently on sale for 75% off in the Steam Summer Sale) but ultimately were not used in the final release version of the game with PixelJam Games. The idea was that you would find SongBot hiding in little caves and he would perform a short song for you.
