so, a difficult change of fortune ~

I've only shared this with a few Mutuals here, but this happened a couple weeks ago. I'd been counting on having a temporary home for the holiday season, as I was supposed to move down to my sister's condo to help as she recovers from hip replacement surgery. They sent her home the same day and the good news is she's getting along fine, with doctors orders to do as much as she can for herself in order to get better faster. She's had in-home PT three times a week and manages to take walks outside daily. As a result, she decided she didn't want me there after all...although I told her I didn't think she'd like being alone 24/7 (I know this from experience), she still said no. In the past three days, she has admitted that the loneliness is depressing her, but her solution is to hope to get her cat back. She's one stubborn curmudgeon, my sister, and for now she continues to turn me away.

For now, I'm scheduled to check out of my room on Tuesday morning, to sleep in my car until Thursday when I get paid. Unfortunately, Connecticut is currently forecast to get 5-8 inches of snow on Tuesday. Not something I want to endure, but I don't have another option (and I cannot miss work M-W).

I'm not giving up on this (I'll have to confront her when she's further healed), because frankly, living this life, constantly scrabbling to pay for a place to stay, moving every couple of weeks because places limit stay periods to keep people from declaring residency, is slowly doing me in. I fight depression as best I can, and turn to my faith for the strength to go on, hoping for the mercy I need so desperately.

Housing update...

As some following this blog might remember, I've been hoping to be able to move in with a relative who has been experiencing serious health issues (severe osteoarthritis in her hip), which would be of help to both of us; I'd be paying rent which she could put towards her mortgage, plus do the cleaning & maintenance on her condo which is now beyond her ability. She's already qualified to go on full disability, but she won't take it yet as she fears the reduction in her income would eat into her retirement savings too quickly. And while I had envisioned that I would be settled in with her by Christmas, she isn't ready to let me move in right now just in case her daughter (whom she subsidizes rent for) decides to move back home. So, I remain homeless in a state whose low-income housing waiting list remains closed.

As a result, I need to raise enough funds...

...to supplement my work income through the end of the year so that I can keep a roof over my head and a warm place to sleep. Nighttime temperatures have fallen into the twenties, so there's no way I can sleep in my car. I hope to raise around $500 for the remainder of 2024, with an immediate need of $175 towards next week's cost.

I know very well that just about everyone is going through financial stress right now (along with the added stress of the holiday season), so I understand that donations will be hard to come by. But in my desperation, I just have to try--while hoping for the best. I am sending out my love and gratitude to anyone who might help with a reblog or donation!

update on my housing situation ~

With the end of summer swift approaching, I've been looking forward hopefully to moving in with a relative who lives about an hour away. I would've been able to transfer to a nearby Walmart, and my expenses for rent would be less than half of the cost of what I'm paying to stay at budget motels. Those plans are delayed indefinitely as, fortunately for her, she's had some relief for the osteoarthritis pain she suffers and has returned to work full-time. For now, she can manage her mortgage without needing additional income from renting to me (although she's unable to maintain her property, clean or even vacuum, which would've been my responsibilities). She also wants to keep her spare room available for her daughter, who's been having trouble meeting her rent for an apartment she shares with her boyfriend in the Bronx. As a result, I remain homeless...for now.

so I'm gonna have to ask for help again...

I've gotten through August better than usual; I'm glad to share that it's been over a month since I've needed to make a post like this. However, between my continued cut in hours (even as the service desk remains chronically understaffed) and a hike of about 20% in local room rates (I usually save about 15%/night by paying weekly), I'm in need of help. I'd like to try to raise $450 - &500 for the month of September, with my immediate need of $200 to manage next week's lodging. As ever, I know that I've been very blessed to receive the friendship and generosity of this community, and I send out my heartfelt gratitude for donations of any size, and to those who reblog this to help boost my plea.
