Listen: 1-5-9 by (Koi Child)
When a hip-hop three piece and nu-jazz quartet threw their respective talents into a blender, Koi Child was the collective outcome.
Like putting on a pair of rose-coloured sunglasses and sipping a corona on the beach, latest single 1-5-9 is like dipping in and out of a pleasant daydream.
Tangled and weaving lyrical play overlap horns and psychedelic guitars, inviting you on a trip down nostalgia lane that has a clear destination.
Koi Child ‘s first LP is available March 18 through Pilerats Records.
Wear: Sibling x River Island
Woollen warriors of the high fashion world, also known as Sibling London, recently teamed up with River Island stores during London Fashion Week.
The collaboration ‘Design Forum’ has brought us middle-class mavericks flamboyant couture at less flamboyant prices.
Despite the slightly nauseating video featuring Ella Richards that is clearly aimed at ensnaring consumers who fall into the category of “trendy highschoolers who have access to their parents credit cards,” the whole Sibling x River Island collection is a dreamy take on winter style.
Like: Unbound on @IntstaMiniSeries
Based on ★ (pronounced Blackstar), the last album released by David Bowie before his untimely passing earlier this year, Unbound is a 16 episode mini-series premiering only on Instagram.
The series received Bowies blessing before his death, with the first two episodes having been released this week. The episodes begin in a dimly lit library where several people read, chat and drink tea, though we cannot hear their voices over a haunting piano piece that flicks back and forth into static.
@InstaMiniSeries explains: “A★InstaMiniSeries takes the audience on a journey of evocative images inspired by the moods suggested in the album’s music, lyrics and artwork.”
Stay tuned for a new episode every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.
See: Botticelli Reimagined at Victoria and Albert Museum
From painting frescoes on the Sistine Chapel, illustrating ‘Dantes Divine Comedy’, to now going on display in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum – Botticelli is back baby. Get ready to see every hipster art student on the tube sporting a ‘The Birth of Venus’ printed tote bag from the V&A gift shop for the next few months.
‘Botticelli Reimagined’ shows work of the 15th century Renaissance legend coupled with contemporary artists who have been inspired by his influence.
Expect lots of recreations of that nude scene where goddess Venus emerges from a clamshell.
Tickets start at £ 15, with the exhibition running until July 3.
Last night I caught up on the latest high-budget drama being raved about by everyone (by that I mean my friends and my mother in law both had good things to say about it, a rare occurrence).
The trouble begins in the chaos of the Egyptian uprisings of 2011, where Jonathan Pine (played by Tom Hiddleston of ‘Avengers’ Fame) is thrust into possibly his worst week on the job as night manager of a luxury Cairo hotel.
Lured by his good-guy nature into exposing evil arms dealing by guests at the hotel, Jonathan bites off more than he can chew and gets caught in a short-lived love triangle that can only end in blood.
How it will all pan out is anyone’s guess, and with Hugh Laurie playing the bad-guy oh so well it’s bound to be conversation fodder in every gossip column for it’s remaining four episodes.
The Night Manager airs on Sundays at 9pm on BBC1
