Made kokedama for the first time
Today I took a lovely drive up the coast alone to attend the Santa Barbara Orchid Show. I went last year with a friend who was interested in orchids, but it ended up being such an awkward experience. The second we got in the door she took off, and I didn’t see her again until after the showroom when it was time to shop. I found it odd.
This time I booked ahead for a workshop so I could politely decline company. It was a ME day. I have a neofinetia falcata that looks like garbage and I wanted to learn how to wrap it properly. I love that I got to keep what I made.
I was a little disappointed that the plant they gave us wasn’t the type they advertised, so I may find a way to communicate that through my society since they work with the organizers.
Turns out I was a natural. I had such wonderful people at my table and we all had a blast. I even got to help the people around me when they felt stuck, which was a nice little self-esteem boost.
On my way home I got to thinking about how much I wish I had a plant-oriented job. For now, it’s a hobby I’m really passionate about.

Riding an elevator high into the jungle canopy, you overhear: "They says the orb rose out the sea one day, all covered in barnacles. An' the clime out here's friendly for it y'know, so all manner o' things grew on top. S' quite an ecosystem now! An' inside's a wee man… I heard it sings." "Listen to yerself! You barking mad? Singin' sea orbs with ecosystems! Methinks the whole thing's a hoax. Bet one o' them cat people planted it for a laugh. Y'know, them little ones wearin' a funny jumpsuit, jumpin' around cacklin' – exactly the kinda thing they'd do. "Cat people!? Oh yeah, how's it float in the air then?" "Y'know… cat magic."

Entrance. Go right and up to the top of this ladder:
Lanterns & bouquets of orange flowers with hovering insects 🟠🦋🐝 have been placed near "Climb" interaction points to guide visitors:
No need to jump anywhere in this fort!
Only follow the lights and walk. 3rd person view with high FOV is best –
both to take in the views and notice important features around you / see where to go.
(Trying to run around a tree fort high in the jungle canopy may result in death. ⚠️💀 Khajiit is not responsible and will probably even laugh at silly runners-come-fallers who ignored instructions. If you landed out-of-bounds or got stuck, use F5+H to return to the entrance.)
At the rope, simply step onto it and walk across!
You made it! Safe and sound. (Maybe 💀) Enjoy the view! Have a drink by the fire if you'd like.
Savvy climbers might even find a secret viewing area from here (or die trying):
Now for the main attraction:
The Kokedama!
"Kokedama": 苔玉; in English, literally "moss ball". Usually consists of an ornamental plant planted inside a ball made of soil and clay, covered in moss.
When you've finished ogling these strange orbs,
Don't forget to visit the gift shop!
See the Directions image below to help find it. As always, look for the orange bouquets that have flying insects and lanterns nearby: there are only 4, and only at interaction points.
