Oedipus complex is just a fancy way to say mommy kink. Nagito, in all honesty, probably doesn't want to be dragged into this in the first place at all.

Junko and Yasuke bantering about Nagito for day nine of @dr0-month …? Gonna be honest, I was originally intending to write Nagito/Yasuke for this day, but Junko was like, “No, this is actually about me.”

This might come from left field but. What do you think of Nagito/Kaede? I feel like Kaede is actually much more similar to Nagito than, say, Chiaki. Just a more cheery and outwardly optimistic person than him. I mean, I'm also a big believer of Kokichi having more in common with Chiaki than Nagito too, but that's a whole different post. But seriously, think about it! Kaede was so willing to kill the mastermind for what they did to her and her friends, even knowing that they're also her friend. Compared to Makoto, who wasn't willing to even kill Junko, or Chiaki, who was willing to help redeem the Remnants of Despair- it's much more like Nagito's "eliminate despair at all cost." Now, Kaede isn't as entrenched in the philosophy part of her moral code like Nagito is, and there are still a lot of differences to the two, but just like Nagito, she is willing to kill for what she deems as "the greater good." A part of what I like about Kaede is that, despite what you'd expect from her considering the archetype she is in Danganronpa, she's not actually this all forgiving, hopeful figure. I genuinely think she's a subversion of both Chiaki and Makoto. I don't know if I'm articulating this right, but- yeah! There's also the fact that both Kaede and Nagito don't exempt themselves from their judgment. When Kaede kills someone innocent, she denies the first blood perk because she feels like she deserves to die for violating her moral code. When Nagito finds out he's Ultimate Despair, he kills himself along with (trying to kill) everyone else. Like, in my V3 SDR2 AU, I had Tsumugi take Hajime's place, Kaede Nagito's, and Kokichi's Chiaki because I feel like those are intentional parallels/subversions in DRV3. If Kaede was a Remnant of Despair and forget that, was put in the simulation with all the other despairs... yes, I think she could try to kill them all. Which in and of itself would be a crazy personality shift for the V3 cast to witness, especially if they were all on good terms with her. Like, imagining a scenario where like... maybe post simulation in a reality where there were two simulation killing games (SDR2 and V3), and both casts were Remnants or something... Nagito comforting Kaede over her actions in the NWP, over her being the very thing she hated... ohhh my heart.

Plus, Kaede/Nagito has the fun dynamic of everyone looking at Kaede like. Hey. Uh. Why on earth are you dating him? Not realizing she's just as insane deep down. Love ghat dynamic.

Sure, I can definitely see Kaede/Nagito and Kokichi/Chiaki working. Honestly, my initial fascination is more with Kokichi/Chiaki, but both have potential. Nagito would definitely be super encouraging toward everything about her.

Like the Makoto/Kaede thing, these ships suffer from how easy it is to pair these characters with similar characters they're closer to canonically; I could just as easily, and with less narrative legwork, see Aoi for Nagito. (I think Aoi and Komaru are the characters who come the closest to matching Kaede's energy, but I would specifically pick Aoi over Komaru for more reasons than are relevant now.) And Himiko would be easier narratively to pair with Kokichi than Chiaki, but I do think Chiaki would be significantly more interesting with him than Himiko would. It makes a lot of sense to put them together.

Kaede isn't the first V3 character I would think to pair with Nagito, but I definitely think they would unlock some interesting things in each other.

Honestly, I high key ship Nagito and Kaede. I think it has some really cute potential, and I feel like she'd be one of the few people who can strike a balance between being super annoyed and angry at his hope thing and just letting him say whatever he wants. I feel like he'd really like how much she wants to help other people, too, and how she has her own hope.
