Wine Review - Kooksoondang Rice Wine
So I had Korean rice wine for the first time. I went back to my folks' home for the weekend and lo and behold, my brother brought home a bottle of it. With his permission, I took a drink out of it and wow, I surprisingly really enjoyed it!
When I poured a glass of it, the first thing that hit my nose was the strong alcohol-ness of it. It smells very strongly of alcohol, which made me expect the first sip to really taste like alcohol. Drinking it, however, was completely different -- it tasted like milk, or conversely, rice milk, if you know how that tastes like. It also tasted carbonated without actually having carbonation bubbles in it. Very interesting experience!
I was also pleased with how non-bitter it was. The milkiness masked the alcoholic taste without overpowering it or feeling artificial about it. If you are lucky enough to be close to a Korean market (such as H-Mart), please give Kooksoondang a try. Highly recommended for people who don't like alcoholic drinks all that much.
