I have this head canon that the events in Danger Days were caused by the Umbrella Academy messing with the timeline.

Danger Days, Aftermath. Chapter 1 - Confrontation
Helena's POV
Chapter 1 - Confrontation
Cherri Cola and I worked for BL/ind, we sent all the information we received to Gerard who then sent the information to Killjoy Headquarters. Gerard was always cold to me when I told him what information I had received. One day I snapped at him, unable to take it anymore. I missed the Gerard that I used to know, the one that would bring me back something sweet when he went out training, the one that held me when I cried, the one I used to stargaze with on the hood of his car.
“Is that all the info you got?” he had asked, his eyes distant.
“Would you stop that?” I snapped.
“Stop what?”
“That! You being so cold all the time. What happened to you? I feel like I don’t even know you anymore,”
He took a step back, “I’m just scared, okay,” he confessed, “ It’s hard being the responsible one. I’m afraid because of my weaknesses, someone I love will get hurt,” he said weakly.
My anger evaporated, “I miss you,” I replied after a long pause, with equal weakness.
“It’s not because I don’t like you anymore. I just think it’s better this way. Or, at least, that’s what I keep telling myself,”
I looked up at the stars, we were standing out on the balcony of the apartment we were renting, “Do you remember when we used to sit on the hood of your car and wait for a shooting star to come by and grant our wishes? Why did we stop? What happened?”
“I grew up, Helena,” he said curtly.
“You don’t think that I’ve grown up?” I questioned, hurt.
“Helena,” he sighed, “All your life you’ve never had to worry about whether the decisions you make will destroy someone else’s life,”
“You’re right, all my life I only had to worry that one day I’ll lose everyone that I love,”
His face fell, “You know I didn’t mean it like that,”
“Then what did you mean?”
He combed his hand through his hair, frustrated, “I just… don’t want to see Mikey get hurt. You know. I’m all he has,”
I studied his face in the pale moonlight, he looked older then I remembered. This was really taking a toll on him. He stepped closer until he was just inches away. He leaned down and I thought that he might kiss me. My heart sang in my chest. He whispered my name quietly. There was a quick rap on the door that made me jump. Gerard pulled away and the coldness in his eyes came back.
“Am I interrupting something?” Cherri Cola asked.
“No Jimmy, I was just leaving,” I said.
When I was alone in my room that night, I lie on the bed and stare up at the ceiling, the moonlight filtering in through the thin curtains. I couldn’t stop thinking about the almost kiss. I wondered what it would be like, to feel him so close. My heart ached thinking about how that might be as close as I’ll ever get.
