My friend requested me to draw a logo for her radio show, and as an attempt to warm-up I drew her a happy birthday drawing.
Hey look. It’s a “yeol chae-r (chair)”. I finally did my pun.

It’s been a while since I posted but I made a 3D printed Janggu keychain for my friend Robert! I had forgotten to buy him a Janggu keychain when I went to Korea this summer and felt bad about it because he’s pretty passionate about drumming. As a warm-up for NX, I made a 3D model and printed it at school. I stringed it and applied epoxy to prevent the strings from snapping at the hole areas.
I think it turned out to be pretty nice. I think if I print this again next time, I’ll have the string holes bigger (I scaled this model down by 1/2 and didn’t account the hole size) and hollow out the drum body to cut down on printing time and filament.
Robert seemed to have liked it! He said it became one of his highly valued possessions.
Day 18 (2/18/16) - Poongmul players end the day at the HK Market plaza in K-town after a full long day from 10AM-6PM marching all over Koreatown. There’s something about this neutral lighting that brings out the spirit of poongmul from the players there, along with this interaction with the constructed space used for consumption and convenience for businesses.
Fall 2015 Midterm Update -- Music
The relatively low intensity of Community Orchestra is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it's great only having one rehearsal a week. But on the other, it's not uncommon for people to come late because there's no penalty for doing so.
I've gotten very rusty. But that's not all. I think I've also lost some confidence. Back when I was in high school and regularly practicing, hard passages wouldn't really phase me. I'd face them head on and do my best. If it didn't work out, so what? I'd simply try again. Now, I get caught up. I'm actively working on getting to where I used to be. It'll be hard, but I feel that I can do it.
NYURI is NYU's tradition Korean drumming ensemble. While I have dabbled in world percussion before, Korean drumming is totally new for me. I'm playing the Janggu. It's really awesome getting back to the basics and learning a new instrument.
Like a lot of other traditional percussion cultures, Korean drumming isn't written down. The beats and rhythms are simply taught by ear or example. I have found however, that there's an enjoyable amount of 3-over-2's and 4-over-3's in this tradition.
I'm glad I joined NYURI. The ensemble is surprisingly social compared to other student clubs. After each rehearsal, the members go out to dinner and hangout for the rest of the night. People always say that it's hard making friends at NYU. This is true to some extent, but through this group, it was a breeze.
That's all I have for now. I'm feeling one or two more update posts in the near future. Most likely in about a week, when my remaining midterm tests and projects are completed.
A drawing I did for my Korean traditional drumming group. It's of the two very kind people who run the group and their young son.

SPG Fanmily Tribute
Dear SPG Fanmily,
I have henceforth resolved to pay tribute to this fanmily.
And it will be epic.
So epic, I daresay, that a few minds might be blown.
It will involve "Automatonic Electronic Harmonics" and this form of instrumentation:

Oh yeah. I DO have secret drumming powers.
Sincerely,
