whether or not you enjoy his art/designs/music, it’s difficult to ignore virgil abloh’s absolute cultural impact. in this lecture, he articulates a number of ideas, which i agree with both creatively and philosophically, but could not myself fully explain.

this is what solidified my opinion of him as a cultural icon and personal inspiration.

happy 4th, 2019

writing this off the top. i feel healthy. i feel good. personal things are looking up! i moved to a new apartment at the beginning of june. and since, i've felt a bit stuck. but maybe it's the multiple todo lists i've been putting off, so that's about to change. starting some exciting projects!

st. vincent was playing when i started writing this post. now it's purity ring. spotify premium has enabled me to get lazy with what i'm listening to. i'm finding great new music, but don't even know who or what i'm listening to most of the time. i used to search for and download mp3s from unknow artists to discover new music. i painstakingly kept my itunes library clean and correctly tagged, but it's been neglected for years. i miss it. also rip itunes.

today is a celebration of our nation's independence. i'm thinking about the ideas and philosophies from which this nation was born a lot today. being proud to be an american doesn't mean blind support of the nation. i'm proud to be an american because i have the freedom to openly criticize the current administration (at least for now).

the united states has concentration camps. but who needs literal space to breathe and toothpaste anyway?

climate change is real. but only according to science 🙄.

judgement and space

judgement is natural. it is automatic and heuristic. it isn't always correct.

moving fast makes it easy to pin concepts/objects/people/whatever as black or white. this or that. right or wrong.

i'm guilty of this a lot. but when i step back and give myself time (space) to really consider the whole intricacies of the subject, the "logic" leading to the original judgement quickly falls apart.

more often than not, judgements are perspectives from which the subject may be understood or viewed rather than inherent attributes/properties thereof.

propaganda is something content can act as; it is not what that something is. "good" people are capable of malice, and "bad" people can do good. it's dynamic.

it's okay to make mistakes. give space to learn from them. don't ruminate, reflect. take something away, and move on. this is improvement.

merry merry

today is monday.

it is christmas eve, and christmas is in 15 minutes.

it was chilly, fresh, and sunny.

when i updated my website early this year, i mentioned that big things were coming this year. ive worked on a few small new projects and made commits to a handful of existing works. overall though, i have not created much in 2018.

while i have mixed feelings about this fact, i'm content that this feeling is more positive than negative. the "big things" this year were more on the personal side. without diving too deep, i've been working hard on my body and mind as well as undoing some bad habits picked up in 2017 ✌️.
