Korg MS-20 owner’s manual – Caution (1978-83)
Sound made cold.
In 1978 Korg released the MS-20 patchable semi-modular monophonic analog synthesizer. The MS-20’s heavily reduced price, made it accessible to everybody and was pivotal in the birth of the classic French cold wave sound. Punks got their hands on a piece of electronics that was affordable and that changed their sound forever. The icy emotionless throbbing of cold wave took the place of angry chord strumming, and perfectly reflected the global recession of the time.
D.A.F. ,Felix Kubin, Kas Product, Liaisons Dangereuses are only but a few notable bands that used and abused the MS-20.
