I know my blog is pretty strictly AtLA/LoK centric, but I need to vent about something personal. I need to ask for help, and if there’s anything I Love about this fandom, is that everyone here has been so nice and treated me like family. Well, I really could use that right now(Tw for harassment)
This afternoon, my sister’s snapchat was hacked and she was threatened and harassed with her own n*des. They were posted on a random forum that we can’t find, and they were sent to her exboyfriend. This was a very specific cyber crime meant to target her specifically.
That person has turned what has already been the worst year of our lives into an even worse one. My sister is now very understandably upset and hurt. Those pictures were for her and her only. She took them to help herself embrace her body image, which is something she’s always struggled with. Those pictures were meant to help her heal, and now they’ve been used to hurt her in ways that we would have never imagined.
Please know that your cyber security isn’t a joke. Make your password as complex as you can. Use two factor authentication. Do everything you can to protect yourself.
I honestly don’t even know what to say. I’m furious. The police have taken our statements and given some pointers, and the FBI has helped the best they can thus far. But this was a personal attack on my sister by the way the phrasing was used. It was done to hurt my sister’s self esteem, to hurt her chances of employment, and to cause issues within her interpersonal relationships.
I’ve already traced the IP address, and it’s obvious that a VPN was used. If anyone has any advice on anything else I can do to help get my sister justice and figure out what website the pictures were posted to, I would be forever greatful.
