Faebruary '25 # 21 - Akiko the Tud-Gommon
"The current directs and guides us. Be they currents of water, or the Hud, only when we are aware of them can we determine our fate."
------------------------------
Faebruary: Back in February, I undertook a project to draw some of the characters of Kroashent as other species in their world as a way to introduce readers to both the characters and these creatures. For a few reasons, uploading them all in the month wasn't feasible, so there's a few overflow ones. Another reason behind the project was to force me to settle on designs for some of the less common creatures who I had not yet drawn.
------------------------------
Akiko: A wandering warrior in search of enlightenment from beyond the known world, Akiko ran afoul of slavers in the Mor Kreizdoaur, a massive inland sea separating the two known continents of Alvez. Her adventures left her lost at sea, rescued by the Marie-Morgane, and starting a new, quiet life with her sisters in the Beacon City.
Tud-Gommon:The Tud-Gommon are a nomadic people, amphibious people, living on settlements of driftwood in the Mor-Bras, as well as around the Phantom Islands, reality-unstable temporary landmasses that sink, drift or vanish altogether. They are often thought to bring about storms, but in reality, their settlements more commonly follow the currents in the wake of magically powerful Wyldstorms. They harvest Tan-Mor, magically charged kelp, which is essential in creating the artificial light, alchemical creations and other magitech technology of the world.
Val's Notes: The Tud-Gommon (Seaweed men) are a mythological creature from the Finestere region (Western Edge) of Brittany. After learning about them, I found it very difficult to find more detailed information on them, giving me quite a bit of leeway on them. I decided tying them to drifting settlements and a historical tradition of seaweed collection. To help them stand out, I wanted to make them a little salamander/froglike. I think she turned out very cute.
