guys i need help
so one of the characters in my story is mute due to sustaining severe mental trauma when they were younger. they have a healthier and happier life now, with a decent group of friends and powerful magical ability they're using to combat the forces that traumatized them when they were younger. despite this, their disability has not gone away.
their primary method of communication is pointing and facial expression, because sign language only exists in this world as a different culture's language (unrelated worldbuilding). they are putting in a lot of effort to learn it with their limited resources, and are conversational with others who know the language, those being native speakers (mc) or their brother that learned it with them. but many of their friends aren't good enough with it yet, and the average person doesn't know it at all, so they can't use it as often as they'd like.
so from what you've read,
is this character a good/realistic representation of mutism?
