Throw Vision!
In some very exciting news, Brooklyn band Throw Vision has been added to the bill for the Kosmosis Zine Launch Party at King's County on 9/28! This is gonna be one for the ages. Here is a clown-faced gypsy child to remind you that beautiful things still exist in the world:
Throw Vision are some seriously talented ladies and gents, featuring Tiff O on lead vox & guitar, multi-instrumentalist Taja Cheek on keys, bass, vox, synths, and guitar, Daniel Kleederman on lead guitar, bass, and vox, and Alex Goldberg on drums & percussives. Their sound is decidedly undefinable, which, of course, we love. Think melodious harmonies, fractals and other naturally occurring mathematic phenomena, clever lyrical journeys, changes and revelations, all performed by a hypnotic and alluring veiled lady in a smokey jazz club in the East Village, back when it was still cool. Or something along those lines. Anyway, you should probably just come to the show and experience it for yourself. You will be glad you did. You can check out their debut album, In I, here, and you can watch their music video for "Hippocampus" below:

1903
What's the best thing to happen to you today since that very first cup of coffee you had this morning?
1903.
Released by Kosmosis Mixtape contributor and longtime Raynebow Magik supporter, Steve Nelson, 1903 is that album that you've been waiting for. We've never reviewed an album before, so allow us to throw some flowery words at you:
1903 is an Apache folktale handed down from generation to generation, going as far back as anyone can remember. 1903 was whispered into your ear by the eastern wind when you were just waking from a lucid dream, blinking the stars out of your eyes, unable to tell whether or not you were still inside of your own mind. You found 1903 on top of the tallest mountain, at the end of a 3-day peyote-fueled vision quest in a remote desert, led by a man with birchbark skin and a beard of clouds. 1903 is not a mirage. 1903 is the lullaby that your mother sang to you when you were still a babe in arms, and hearing it again rekindles your deepest and most formative memories. 1903 is the song the sirens sing to the sailors to lure their ships to the rocky shores. 1903 was the most precious article recovered from the wreckage of the Titanic. 1903 will release you from suffering, but only if you are truly ready. 1903 is 2014, somehow, inexplicably, but it is so.
1903 was released by Steve Nelson yesterday and we can't stop listening to it. Featuring Mr. Nelson's original song stylings, plus the talents of George Frye (of Not Blood Paint), Maria Vaz (formerly of Massage Club), and Lenna Pierce (aka Kosmosis contributor Meaner Pencil) , this record is so unbelievably rad. The raddest part about it? It has also been released on vinyl. We can't wait to get our hands on a hard copy, roll up a spliff, lay on the floor, and allow the vinyl vibrations to transport us to Steve Nelson's hazy dreamland. You don't need drugs to listen to this record, though, it's beyond amazing on its own. Speaking of drugs, here is one of our favorites off of the album:
1903 by Steve Nelson
Steve Nelson will be joining Kosmosis contributors Jingo, along with Not Blood Paint, for the Anatomy Tour across the Midwest & Northeast beginning tomorrow! The tour will culminate in their homecoming show on Saturday, September 27th, at Radio Bushwick in Brooklyn. And that, friends, is where you can get your hands on the real deal record of 1903. Fuck. Yeah. If you hate people and fun and everything good in the world, though, we understand. Don't worry, you can still buy a hard copy of the record online at www.stevenelsonmusic.com. Here is a promo video for the tour that Steve put together:
And here is the magic man, himself:

have you heard the word?! the new Kosmosis site is up! Check it at www.kosmosiszine.com. Bookmark it. Make it your homepage. No, don't actually do that. #kosmosis #raynebowmagik #zine #diy #website #excitingstuff
It's the dawn of a new era for Kosmosis: we officially have a website! It's pretty barebones for the moment, and that's because we wanna get you all worked up for the big reveal... The full Kosmosis site will go live on October 1st, 2014.
The site will feature the online editions of the zine, as well as the mixtapes, available for streaming. There will also be a full artist directory, with bios and photos, of our contributing visual and musical artists. Kosmosis is more than just the zine, though. Kosmosis is the vision.
We envision the Kosmosis site as a resource for artists and their communities between issues, and throughout the year. We will let you know about all of the seriously rad things that the artists that we love are up to: what shows to attend this weekend, who's releasing a new video or album, and who has a captivating new body of work up on their website or in a gallery.
"But that is the future!" You will say. "What of now?!"
Well, now you can get excited about the Kosmosis Zine Launch Party that is happening on Sunday, September 28th at King's County Saloon in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
That's where you can cop an exclusive limited-edition first-run print of Kosmosis Volume One: Retrograde. Not only do you get a lovingly produced 100% xeroxed version of the zine, but you will also receive a download code which entitles you to a free download of our first ever knock-your-sox-off mixtape.
All for the low low price of $5 US American Dollars .
"5 US American Dollars?!?" You will say. "What is the catch?"
Well, we're sorry to break it to you, but there is no catch. We want culture to be accessible, and we want people to value art in its precious and printed form. Because that matters to us.
The Zine Launch Party will be a splendiferous and spectacular affair featuring a diverse lineup of eclectic musical acts. This is not one to be missed, trust us. Performances include:
XHOSA
LAZERSHIP (sounds like this and looks a little something like this)
Meaner Pencil
Kahan James (past projects include The Bright Room [listen here & watch here] & Miss Ng)
& possibly some more extra super special guests, to be announced...
Also stay tuned for our "Meet the Artist" series, which will begin forthwith!
We love you, and thank you for your continued support!

I’m just saying, though, there are some damn fine faces in this inaugural batch of contributing artists for Kosmosis Volume One. I mean, really. Website to be launched next week, as well as some exciting info about the zine launch party!!! Stay tuned, kids!
