LETTING HIM GO HAD BEEN THE HARDEST thing she'd ever done in this lifetime. Given the amount of things that Karen had been through since she was a young teen, that was certainly saying something, but damn letting him go those few months ago had been like a knife to her gut ... a bullet to her chest and the pain was still never ending. like a permanent wound that was never going to heal. while she still didn't know all the details, even in her endless searches things were being locked up tight, somehow those who were dead were now brought back to life in a mystery that was still yet to be solved.
frank had his family back.
maria, lisa, frankie .. they'd all come back to him in a dreamlike fog only to be revealed as a reality. one that had been met with overjoyed happiness on one end and a gut wrenching heartache on the other. karen had seen the indecision on his features. the new war that he'd been fighting over a choice that needed to be made. the family he'd lost had returned, so what did that mean for the family that he had created when the wounds were healed and his heart settled? karen couldn't let him suffer .. couldn't make him make that decision and live with the guilt. if this was permanent.. well, it didn't seem as though they were going anywhere any time soon.
she'd made the call. took the kids, and left the home that he could keep as his own with maria and the two others. they had nothing coming back and she was more than okay with allowing them to have the home that kept frank off the grid and protected. of course, that wasn't to say she didn't let frank see the kids. she hadn't strayed too far. while addy, david and nell could hardly understand the why of it, why they were only seeing their dad part time -- she knew that it was for the best. no matter how badly it hurt her.
karen draws in a breath and slowly exhales a shaky breath, ignoring the constant ache in her chest as hands push over her head and she finally gets out of the car to head up to the home's door. a soft knock echoes on the wooden door as she looks around the place. why did it have to hurt so bad? she knew it was the right thing and had no regrets but .. it still felt as though she could no longer breathe properly.
