Carol hadn’t meant for this.
She hadn’t meant to have been selfish.
She hadn’t meant to have been so irresponsible.
But that didn’t mean she regretted it.
Nothing in the entire universe could make her regret what had lead to this very moment as she stared at the most precious thing in her world.
The tiny baby in her arms meant more to her than all the stars in the galaxy combined together. She was her galaxy. Her star.
Monica kept hovering near the door way unsure of what to do with herself as she watched her aunt hold the newborn safely in her arms. “Have you got a name for her auntie Carol?” The young teen questioned bouncing almost on the balls of her feet, looking up at the girl Carol nodding signalling for the teen to come into the room. Leaping into the room Monica quickly situated herself to her aunts side watching her new ‘cousin’ with bright eyes, “she looks purple..” the girl comments quickly upon closer inspection of the newborn. Carols eyes flickered over her daughter catching the hints of purple in her face and on the tips of her ears, “it’s her blood... she’s part Kree so her bodies preparing itself for the slight difference I think that’s why it’s a purple hue instead of a reddish pink...” she tried to explain before realising that she too had little knowledge on how her own child’s biology was effected by the difference in her parents biology.
“Look auntie carol she’s got stars on her arms!” Monica chirped tracing her fingers along the freckle like birth marks that littered the babies arm. Carol followed the girls movements counting how many marks were on her newborns skin, “you should call her something cool to do with space... you know since she’s part alien and you guys will probably spend most your time in space..” explained the young teenager moving so she could sit cross legged yet still be in reach of the baby girl in her aunts arms.
“How about you give me some suggestions, I’m getting pretty old now my memories of baby names are just awful” Carol chuckled softly as the teen laughed rolling her eyes childishly, “well there’s Venus or Vesta or there’s a character called Nova from my favourite comic-book ever, their pretty cool.. their superpower is almost like yours but they have to wear this helmet to get it to work.” She gushed before her eyes lit up, “or you can call her Star.. I can’t remember what my Spanish teacher called it but apparently the word for Star is the same in Spanish as it is in so many other languages.. it’s such a pretty name as well one of my friends has a baby sister who’s named after the word Star, their from Mexico and her dad’s an astrophysicist” Monica explained before running from the room almost crashing into her own mother on her way.
Maria pauses before she knocked on the door to her best friends room, smiling at the sight of the ex-Kree soldier holding her child as if she was going to disappear at any second. “She’s only small so you gotta be gently with how you hold her, small tight spaces are okay but you don’t wanna put to much pressure on her lungs like you said earlier your not sure how her bodies gonna react to the changing of gravity..” Maria warned to new mother who loosen her tight grip a flash of fear washing over her face, “oh god I could’ve been hurting her” the woman mumbled fearfully. Maria sighed moving further in to sit by her friends side, “you weren’t but you just need to watch your strength that’s all I’m saying okay imagine how it felt holding Monica the first time just hold her the same way you held Monica” the fighter pilot tried to sooth her friends worries.
Shifting her gaze back down to the small infant in her arms she couldn’t help but fall more and more in love with the girl. “I love her, my little star”.
“Your dad once told me stories about the different Stars that you could see from Hala, you can’t really see them from here but when you older I’ll take you up to see them in person...” she murmured to the sleeping baby in her arms, smiling softly at the child she pressed her lips to the crown of her daughters head. “I love you..” the soft whisper of her voice carried away into deaf ears, “I will always love you.. you are my star, my moon my galaxy...” the words slipped from her tongue, “nothing in this universe will ever keep me from you, I will always be there for you for the rest of your life my star... my world..” she vowed to her only love, her only child.
“You are meant for great things, my Estella and I will be there for you every step of the way”
