Greetings! That was quite a beautiful story how you and Vanessa first met. What was your fondest memory of your time being spent with her? What was your first warning sign of her... true nature?
“I know exactly what you’re thinking right now,” She says with a playful smile. He looks up from the letter he’s reading and returns her expression with an amused smirk of his own.
“Oh? And what’s that? Has your magic given you psychic abilities now?”
“You’re thinking about that law school again,” She rests her elbows on his shoulders and gently combs through his hair with her fingers, “You’re downright stressed about it, dear.”
“Is it really that obvious?” He lowers the paper and leans into her touch a bit, enjoying her presence.
“You’ve been reading those letters over and over again. You’ll be accepted in, I’m sure of it. They’d be a fool not to accept my Prince.”
She wraps her arms around him and kisses the back of his head.
“It’s not that,” He says, “I mean, yes I’m stressed about the school but it’s not the acceptance I’m worried about. I’m worried about, well everything! This would be the longest I’d be away from home. The longest I’d be away from you! And then there’s the classic doubt of ‘Am I Good Enough’? I know these fears of mine are silly and make no sense. Psychologically it’s ridiculous but I-”
She cuts him off by putting a finger to his lips. They sit there for a moment in silence. He can’t look at her directly so he focuses instead on the burning candle on the desk in front of him and the cool feeling of her body pressing against him from behind.
“You’re not just good enough,” She says in a hushed tone, “you’re perfect,” She twirls a finger through a lock of his hair.
“And there’s nothing to be worried about,” She cuts him off again, “But if you really are feeling doubts you could always stay here and learn Law somewhere else.”
He chuckles, “As much as I would love that, this school is the best of the best. And I only want the best for you and the people. After all, one day we’ll be King and Queen, at least one of us needs to know the in’s and out’s of the current law system and I know you hate discussing politics.”
“I do,” She pouts and rests her chin on his head, “It’s just so dull I don’t know how you can stand it.”
“It’s amazing actually. You could make someone do something completely abhorrent if you have the right paperwork and know the right loopholes. It’s like a game of chess where both competitors are expected to cheat and not get caught. I find it fascinating.”
“Hm, for you maybe, but to me, all I hear is blah blah blah.”
She pulls away and goes to rest in an armchair. He takes the opportunity to turn around in his seat to watch her collapse in it.
“… I know exactly what you’re thinking,” He says.
“Oh?” She grins, “And what’s that?”
She bursts out into a fit of giggles.
“Maybe a little, but it’s a good thing.”
“Well thank the gods for that.” He gets up from his chair and stretches with a yawn, “It’s getting late, I should probably turn in. Sleep would be better than staying up all night dealing with stress.”
She hums in agreement and they exist in comfortable silence. Her, sitting in the warm armchair and twirling a finger through her honey-colored locks. Him, getting dressed for bed and trying not to think about all the what if’s coming to mind. Before he climbs into their bed she stops him.
“Just… Promise me something?”
He’s caught off guard but replies, “Anything, just name it.”
“That while you’re away, you’ll think about me every day.”
He smiles at her and approaches her on the armchair. He cups her cheeks in his hands and leans down enough so they’re touching foreheads.
