Karen Smith is Not Stupid
Karen Smith isn’t stupid, she’s still. Physically and mentally still in the best way possible, she doesn’t move around a lot (as opposed to Gretchen, who never stops moving) but she’s also still in the way that her mind isn’t zooming with thoughts a thousand miles an hour, she has a very calm, still, and serene way of thinking. But that doesn’t mean her head is empty. Everything is very clear to her, things are the way they are and thats that, and its alright.
She is a plastic because thats how its always been, thats just the way things are. To her, she has her 2 best friends and they are popular together and everyone likes them, and she has never had a reason to believe otherwise. She has gotten manipulated into doing things she otherwise wouldn’t because of her blind faith for those she loves and trusts.
She is unapologetic for the way she is and she is true to herself. She knows she doesn’t get the highest grades, and people call her dumb, but she knows its okay. “Yeah, I have flaws but that’s OK. I’m fine the way I am. I have other nice qualities.” (Kate Rockwell, on Karen’s audience appeal, in an interview). And thats a wonderful outlook on life, and that by itself makes her really intelligent.
Speaking of, the way she sees things allows her to have one of, if not the wisest line in the show: The Rule of 2s.
She’s an emotionally driven character, she follows her emotions more than she does her brain, everything is a lot simpler to her that way.. and she’s still and observant, she’s rlly clever when it comes to other people.
