Storyline- it's your first day of actual classes at your new school and you finally get to begin training to become a hero. Your first heroic class is the Battle Class with All Might, where things take a dramatic turn for your poor boyfriend and his superiority complex.
CW- violence and fighting
WC- 5,740
Authors Note- I hate writing battle scenes. Also, make the costume and whatnot what you want, idc. What I put was really just inspo idea. As always, remember to have a good day and take care of yourself, Lovelies. You are important and you matter more then you may ever know 💙
It's the second day of school at UA, a part of it still doesn’t feel real and you wonder if it ever will. You walk with Katsuki to school, like you always have, and make it to your classes, of which today is the first day of actual classes and learning. You go through the first half of the day doing boring classes like English, language, and math, and then it’s lunch.
You and Katsuki make it to the lunch room, getting your food and then taking a seat at the closest table. Pretty soon after the two of you take your seats, a boy with familiar red hair approaches. “Hey, can I sit with you two?” He asks, his hands that are holding his tray look as though they are aching to fidget with something as he nervously awaits a reply.
You give him a bright smile and nod at him, “Yes you may.”
But just as you respond, Katsuki shoots him a glare, “No.” Kirishima’s face falls slightly in disappointment.
You hit the blonde’s side and turn to the disappointed boy once more, “Of course you can. Don’t listen to him, he’s just like that.” The red haired boy smiles at you, taking a seat across from the two of you and giving you a polite, “Thank you.”
“Don’t speak for me,” he glares at you for a second before you give him a glare of your own, and he shuts up and continues eating his food. You take a bite of your own as the boy with black hair and weird elbows walks up followed shortly by the yellow haired boy you know to be Kaminari. “Hey, can we join you guys, we don’t really know many people but recognize you from class.” the black haired one gives a slight smile.
You notice Katsuki opening his mouth and quickly slap your hand to it. “Of course, take a seat.” You flash them a smile, and they take the seats across from you two and sit next to Kirishima. Kaminari looks slightly confused when you all but slap Katsuki on the mouth, but simply shrugs his shoulders and moves on.
“So, how is everyone's day going so far?” Kirishima asks with a bright smile after swallowing a bite of his food.
Kaminari answers with a smile of his own, “Good, I’m just excited to be done with the general studies and to be able to start the hero stuff.” He takes a bite of his food as Kirishima agrees.
“Me too man, I’m so excited to get into the action!” His tone is loud and cheerful, and you feel yourself drawn to his optimistic nature and good heartedness.
“Ooo~,” you hear a familiar feminine voice, “This must be the cool kids table.” You smile as the pink girl you talked to earlier takes a seat right besides you, as if that is where she has always belonged.
“Hi Ashido,” you greet her, “We were just talking about how excited we were to actually begin the hero classes.” The girl gives you a grin of her own, “I know right, I can’t wait to start the good stuff.”
The group talks a little more, easily getting alone. Katsuki butts in every so often to yell at someone, or say something some would deem equally annoying, but it always manages to bring a bright smile to your face or laughter to your lips. You smile softly as you and Katsuki go to put away your dishes, happy at how easily you’re making friends. He gives you a small scoff, and when you look at him with a questioning gaze he simply replies, “You’re smiling to yourself like an idiot.”
You let out a small hum, “I didn’t realize I was. I guess I’m just already enjoying it here.” You flash him a bright smile, and you would be lying if you said it didn’t have a little spite to it. Internally he’s fangirling over how cute you look, and how happy he is that you are happy. Externally he just gives you a small nod. The only sign of any actual emotion is in the slight tightening of his hand. Like he’s itching to grab something (your face) and throw it (kiss it).
Lunch finishes and soon it’s time for the classes you all have been waiting for- the hero classes. Your classmates are abuzz with excitement as they sit in the classroom waiting for the teacher to arrive. Pretty soon none other than The All Might enters the room, making a loud and flashy entrance. Most (you included) of the students look with awe at the hero- pointing out that he is wearing his silver age costume, noting that he really is teaching at UA, and overall just fangirling/boying over the famous hero. The number one hero goes on a spiel about what the class is and what it will pertain, going so far as to compare it to ‘Heroing 101.”
“All right class,” his voice feels like it echoes through the room, “It’s time to get suited up into your costumes before meeting me at the Training Ground Beta.” The already excited class somehow gets even more excited at the idea of being able to wear their hero costumes. A low rattle echoes through the room as numbered cases pop out of the wall, sparking even more joy and nervousness through the classroom.
You quickly find your suitcase and head to the changing room, excited to finally be able to try on the costume. You and Katsuki got together when you were filling out the costume request forms, although both of you already had ideas for your costumes that you had thought out or created in some way multiple times throughout the years. But as does anything, your ideas have evolved a lot along with your age, the costumes maturing as you did. But you were pretty satisfied with both of your submissions in the end.
You put on your costume, a black thing with a witchy vibe. You wanted to have lots flowing fabric and loose sleeves and what not, but knowing that you would be fighting in it you decided to tone down on the loose fabrics. Instead you decided to take a more practical route, while still having that witchy vibe to it. The fabric of most of the costume is made of a flexible leather blend that is both durable enough to use in combat but flexible enough to allow for movement,
The costume features a leather turtle necked halter top dress that zips in the front till midway down the middle, where the zipper ends. The skirt of the dress is longer in the back (going a little bit past your knees), and shorter in the front (going to just above your knees) with frayed and purposefully unevenly cut ends. Almost like it is to mimic the silhouette of flames or some similarly abstract shape. Under the skirt you wear black lace tights that have dark purple flowers and thorns stitched into them.
It comes with black healed boots that lace up to the ankles. The shoe laces are the same dark, almost undetectable, purple, as is the tip of the boot. And from the purple heel sprouted a spider web that extends to a little ways above the ankle. For the winter months you also have a leather jacket that goes with it that will be zipped up to right under your chest, although it has the ability to go all of the way up. You choose to leave it out today, knowing it will be more than warm enough without it.
Your costume also has a few qualities that help with your quirk. For example, it has an abundance of pockets to hold cough drops and other sore throat remedies along with a pocket dictionary created specifically for you that is organized by words that rhyme and some metal balls for you to control and enchant. You sigh as you realize you stupidly forgot some cough drops, already predicting the mess your throat is going to be later.
Now for the finishing touch- you pick up the last part of your costume, a pointy witch hat, and place it on your head. It may not make sense to some people now, but when the class gets to pick and reveal hero names (that you have already been thinking about) it will be pretty obvious why you chose this look. You smile, looking in the mirror and checking out the fit of the costume.
“Awww,” Ashido exclaims with a smile on her face, “We all look so cute.” She is met with happy, and some nervous, smiles as everyone takes one final once over of their costumes and exits the changing room. You see the rest of the guys exiting their changing room too, and Katsuki catches your eyes. You already had an idea of what his costume would be like, but his sketches and descriptions are nothing compared to seeing the real deal on him.
He is wearing basically a black body suit with fancy details like the green belt and an orange x across his chest. You notice the hair spikes sticking from his head and remember how excited he was, though he tried to hide it, when he was designing that park. Then there are the giant grenades he wears on his wrists- your idea, well a team effort. You suggested finding a way to store up all of his “loose sweat” as you so generously called it, and he came up with the idea to have grenade shaped gauntlets.
Walking up to him, you check him out without even bothering to hide it. The way his arm muscles look in his costume is just cruel, and so is the way you can very clearly see just how fine your boyfriend is in any and all other aspects. He gives you a smug smirk as he closes the distance between you, whispering in your ear as the class walks to the training grounds. “Like what you see?” You blush slightly, but quickly hide it.
“I suppose it isn’t that bad.” You shrug as though you weren’t basically about to drool. You catch Katsuki giving you a once over, a look of pride hidden in his eyes. You are about to call him out, but before you even have the chance Kirishima walks up to you two followed by Ashido.
You look over, and start to blush slightly. He is basically shirtless. And you could already tell he was in shape, but now you have the living proof in front of you. This man has ABS. You immediately feel guilty, and calm yourself down as the two reach you and Katsuki.
“Wow, your costume looks amazing L/N.” The red haired boy calls out as he begins to walk beside you, sandwiching you between him and Katsuki while Ashido walks on his other side.
You give him a shy smile, “Thank you, I had a little help from Katsuki with coming up with the ideas.” The four of you talk a little more before the class has arrived at the training grounds. All Might is already standing there and waiting to give instruction, and he does so after complimenting everyone's costumes. He explains that there will be two teams each match with two students on each team. Heroes vs Villains. Students will draw cards to choose which team they are in. The goal for the heroes is to touch the bomb the villains are guarding or capture the villains before time runs out. The goal of the villains is to guard the bomb and avoid capture.
The first round is heroes team Midoriya and Uraraka vs villains team Katsuki and Iida. You nervously wait in the surveillance room as you watch the match begin. You know the bad blood between the two, or more so just from Katsuki to the anxious other boy. You know it’s kind of a red flag the amount of unreasonable hatred your boyfriend has for Midoriya, but you also know who Katsuki is, even the parts and feelings he won’t vocalize, and you know exactly why those feelings exist, even if he himself may not fully understand them. You silently pray the poor green haired boy makes it out alive.
The battle is violent as the four fight like their lives depend on it. After the chaotic and hard to follow scene comes to an end, you see Uraraka clinging to the bomb. All Might declares the hero team the winners of this match. The next round is about to begin when Katsuki enters the surveillance room and stalks towards you, a scowl ever evident on his face.
You look at him with soft and comforting eyes, and silently go to take his hand in your own. A routine the two of you often do, comforting the other by silently letting your presents be known. A simple holding or squeeze of the hand that’s not flashy, not bold, not even noticeable most times, but it’s yours. Your way of comforting one another. So when you hold out your hand and he simply scoffs and turns away, a part of you feels hurt. But you know him, you know he needs time to cool down and process things. So you give him space to stand there in his thoughts, while you turn and yap with the rest of your friends while watching the matches.
Soon enough it’s your turn. It’s you and Kirishima as heroes vs Tokoyami and Tsu (as you learn she wishes to be called) as villains. You and Kirishima stand outside of the building, waiting to begin. “First I think we should explain our quirks a little more,” he says, an unusually focused look on his face. “I’ll go first. My quirk is hardening. So I can harden my skin and become basically indestructible. It's pretty simple, and not that flashy, but it gets the job done and I'd say it’s pretty manly.” He gives you a toothy smile, “Ok, your turn.”
“My quirk is enchant,” you begin to say, “If I speak or sing a chant that rhymes and has rhythm then I can enchant or control an object, creature, or sometimes human to do what I’m telling it to do so long as I continue chanting.” You tell him the basics of your quirk, not bothering to go into some of the more specific details.
He nods and flashes you another smile, “That's such a cool quirk.” He activates his quirk as the time officially begins. “Dang, we better get going. Do we have a game plan?” The two of you are already running into the building, ready to find the bomb and win the round.
“It’s not certain that my quirk will work against them, so we should be prepared for a plan revolving around the option that that will fail.” You’re running, the two of you attempting to keep a close look out for any danger, when suddenly Tokoyami appears in the corner in front of you. He sends Dark Shadow out to attack in your direction, and Kirishima quickly jumps and knocks you out of the way. Landing on top of you as he does.
He quickly rolls off, and the two of you rush to a stand. “Here goes nothing,” you murmur before yelling out to the bird-like boy before you. “Villain that is standing before me, Bow down onto your knee. Cease this fight at this moment, and stop all of your attempts at movement.” You call out the enchant a few times but the boy just seems confused. The shadow bird and his owner go to attack you once more, but Kirishima blocks the attack using his own body and quirk.
You groan a little before changing things up, "Cloak of black on his shoulder, wrap around the body of the shadow holder, seal him up nice and tight, and ensure he loses our fight.” You continuously chant as the cloak on Tokoyami’s back begins to wrap itself around the now semi worried boy, effectively stopping him from moving. Dark Shadow however is still able to move freely, and strikes at you. Kirishima blocks it while using his quirk, and pushes back at the shadow creature.
They go head to head, trying to see who can out strengthen who. “You go find Tsu and the bomb, I’ll hold him off here!” Kirishima shouts and you give a nod in confirmation. You continue your chant to keep the cloak tight around Tokoyami, but you soon reach your limit. You hear a series of loud noises behind you but continue on, choosing to trust that Kirishima can do it.
You continue the journey, and try to find the area the bomb is hidden in. No sign of the frog girl, strange. Just then you see a room up ahead, a slimy substance coating the door. You look into the room and see the same thing covering the majority of the room. You hear a lot of commotion, and some yelling, coming from the ground beneath you. You can also feel a little bit of shaking in the building. You take in your surroundings and find the bomb standing in the far corner.
That is when you notice Tsu standing there looking mildly regretful. “That’s a toxin I can secret, if you touch it it could make you feel itchy and eventually lead to temporary paralysis, ribbit." The girl calls out before you can take a step into the room. You examine your situation and look towards her with a smirk.
“Thanks for the warning.” You take a deep breath and continue, “Black bomb laying in the corner, zoom past my opponent and straight to me.” you pause for a second thinking of a rhyme, “Forget your home in the former, and come to be free with thee.” You repeat the chant as the bomb comes racing towards you.
Time feels as though it slows as you are seconds away from touching the bomb, you see Tsu throw her tongue around the large thing to try and pull it back. She slows the speed of the fake bomb a little, but you are already too close to it. You throw your hand out, and the skin comes into contact with the bomb. Just like that a horn blares through the building and an announcement is made signaling that the heroes won.
The commotion below stops a few moments after, and you feel yourself getting dizzy, head spinning and vision blurry. You look down at yourself and see that as the bomb scraped against the floor it dragged some of the mucus your way. The last thing you see is an apologetic look on the green haired girl as she says something you can’t make out.
_________________________________
You hear noises and chatter surrounding you and the distant sound of familiar yelling. You open your eyes to see that you are back in the surveillance room, a couple of your friends standing in the area surrounding you. Tsu is the first to notice that you have woken up. “Sorry about that,” she croaks out as she gives you an apologetic look, “the mucus was probably unnecessary and really gross. I hope you are feeling ok.”
You give her a reassuring smile, “It’s all right. Actually I was going to say your quirk is so cool and versatile.” Your words seem to have the effect you were hoping for as her face brightens slightly. She looks as though she is about to speak up but is cut off by Ashido’s cheery voice, “Wow you were so cool! I’m starting to get why your costume is what it is. You were totally like some cute fantasy witch.”
You laugh lightly at this as you look around you. You are sitting in one of the chairs pushed to the back of the room. Ashido, Tsu, and Kirishima (who is covered in scrapes and bruises from his fight with Tokoyami) were all standing a couple of feet in front of you but at the mention of you being awake once more they came closer to stand right by you and talk to you. To your right you see Katsuki standing and looking at you with narrowed eyes, as though he is making sure you are still in one piece. When the two of you make eye contact he huffs before looking back towards the screen to watch the rest of whoever's match is currently going.
Kirishima notices you taking in your surroundings and speaks up, "Tsu said the effects only lasted for around five to ten minutes, so they just decided to let you chill here rather than drag you all the way to the nurses office for something so minor.” You nod as you take in the information.
Pretty soon you feel as though you have gained enough sensation to stand once more, so you do exactly that. The four of you talk for a little while more before Tsu, apparently satisfied with your condition, moves away from the group. Soon after that Katsuki walks up to your trio and silently stands there, still fuming over his loss. You turn slightly towards him while Ashido talks about some childhood story and give him a once over to dictate just how mad he still is.
You can tell by his scowl that he isn’t happy, but his shoulders and arms seem to be looser than before. You turn to look at Ashido, nodding along and laughing at something she says, while you secretly take Katsuki’s hand into one of your own and give it a light squeeze before releasing it once more. You smile slightly when he allows you to do so.
You quickly look at him and notice that his frown has lessened and so has the strain in his shoulders. Your smile only deepens at this, and you almost sigh in relief when no one says anything and you realize you hadn’t been caught by teasing peers. The four (more like three) of you talk in between watching the matches, and two rounds later and the last team has battled.
The class now stands in the same spot by the entry where you were first explained the rules for today's activity at. All Might, who you still can’t believe is teaching you right now, recaps a few things before rushing out of the training grounds. You turn to Katsuki, who is frowning the same as he was earlier right after his match. You take in his tight fists and overall pissed off look and decide that it is better to just let him be.
Instead you turn and talk with the rest of your friends as everyone makes the trek back to the changing rooms and the rest of your classes. During the walk Katsuki keeps pace a few steps behind you, silently fuming at the ground and world around him. Eventually the class makes it to the changing rooms and you notice Katsuki is staying at the back of the group, still silent. You hold the door open for all of the girls to enter, and tap him on the shoulder before he can enter the men’s changing room.
He gives you a pissed off glare and looks as though he’s about to yell at you before he notices that it is, well, you. He takes a breath before glaring at you slightly, “What do you want?” His tone is full of impatience and anger.
You give him a look of warning and he scoffs and rolls his eyes, but eventually softens his demeanor slightly. “I wanted to say you did good, don’t be too disappointed with the results ok. Love ya.” And before he can reply you disappear into the doorway entering a room of chatting and giggling girls. You all quickly change and make your way to your next classes.
For the rest of the day Katsuki has the same pissed off vibe, and you try to give him space knowing that he won’t take any means of comforting him well. But soon enough the school day has come to an end and all of the lessons for the day have finished up. The class is just about to go through and review what happened during battle class when Katsuki scoffs, stands up and leaves the classroom.
“Hey, where are you going?” Ashido questions as the blonde nears the door. She is met with silence as his hand reaches the handle. You, done with his bull shit, follow him out the door with a rushed, “I’ll be right back,” thrown behind your back and to your fellow classmates.
“Katsuki wait!” You call out, grabbing his hand with your own. He huffs an annoyed sigh and turns to face you.
“What do you want?” He shoots you an annoyed glare, eyes narrowed and lips curled downward. You give him a pained look in return.
“Hey, I am not the one you are mad with.” You can’t tell if it’s you or him you're telling it to in this moment. But after knowing him for so long you have learned how to have thick skin to insults and his bad moods. “Look,” you sigh and bring his hand, and therefore body, closer to you, “I know you are mad, and I know you are disappointed with the way things went today. But have some mercy on yourself and Midoriya ok.”
He scoffs and rolls his eyes, “How many times do I have to tell you to quit telling me what to do.”
“Katsuki,” you give him a glare of your own, “I am not your enemy so quit taking it out on me. I am trying to be a nice and supportive girlfriend ok.”
His gaze softens ever so slightly as he mumbles under his breath, “I know.”
And that is all it takes for you to know you have gotten through to him. “I am going to let you go, you can go home and cool off. But when I get back to my house I am going straight to yours and we are going to finish this conversation. Ok?”
He gives you an eye roll and a playful smirk, although it is still laced with anger and resentment. “Fine. God, you already act like we’re a married couple in need of counseling.”
You give him a satisfied smile as you give his hand a squeeze before gently letting it go. “Say what you want, someone has to make sure this relationship stays afloat and a part of that is making sure you as a person are ok.”
He gives you a slight smile, although it obviously still holds his deeper negative emotions, and turns to go. He calls over his shoulder, “Yeah yeah, I’ll see you later I guess.” Before he is walking away once more. You have a satisfied look on your face as you watch him go, before you enter the classroom once more. As you open the door, Ashido and Kaminari fall slightly before righting themselves. They each now wear a guilty face as Kirishima dies of laughter by them.
“Uhhh, Hi~ L/N. How did your talk go?” Ashido asks awkwardly, taking a step back to allow you to re-enter the room.
“Well, it seems you already know.” You raise your eyebrows at her as Kirishima seems to finally catch his breath.
“I told you guys not to do that,” his face is radiating joy as he smiles wide, eyes crinkling in the corner and pointy teeth on full display. You stare for a moment, but quickly pull yourself out of it. Kaminari and Ashido give you an apologetic look, hands grasped in front of them as though they are praying for forgivness.
“We’re sorry!” Kaminari all but yells, turning to you with a pleading look.
“Please don’t tell Bakugo, he’ll have our necks for sure.” She doubles his pleading look, puppy dog eyes and all.
You laugh slightly at their expense, “it’s ok, it’s not like we were in a private area or anything.” The two relaxed immediately at your words Ashido bringing you into a sudden hug,
“You are a saint.” She calls out before breaking away from your personal space just as soon as she joined it. The class talks for a little bit, and eventually Midoriya walks into the room with bandages and a cast. You eye him apologeticly as he talks with some of your class mates, most of them just fangirling over his match. It’s a good thing Katsuki isn’t here. You think to yourself as you hang in the back of the room and talk to some of the classmates you hadn’t had the chance to yet.
Somebody said something that seems to worry him and he leaves the classroom in a hurry. A few people (you, Uraraka, Ashido, and Tsu) chase after him, only for a few feet, before deciding to watch from the window as Midoriya approaches Katsuki. You see all that is going on, even when All Might appears and he simply brushes him off, and you worry more as you watch him leave the school grounds.
“Screw waiting,” you mumbles before rushing to grab your things. “I’m going, I’ll see you guys tomorrow .” You call out to the girls as you chase after him.
Ashido gives you a glance, and you can tell she is trying to contain her teasing smirk. “Yeah, see you.” You don’t wait for responses from either of the other girls as you continue down the stairs. You debate sending him a text asking him to wait up, but think better of it. You aren’t exactly running after him, but your pace is anything but casual.
You exit the school building, the orange glow of the sun shining down on you and a fresh, comforting breeze hitting your face and cooling the flush from it. You keep up your pace, increasing it slightly, as you go after the angry blonde boy you so intensely love. Passing an injured Midoriya and concerned All Might with a simple, “have a good day.” without waiting for a response.
Within almost, although not quite, half of the time it would normally take you, you see you and Katsuki’s houses approaching closer. You take a deep breath, entering your own home and putting your stuff into your room before changing into more comfortable clothing. You head to the kitchen where you greet your parents, exchanging a few pleasantries as you gather a few snacks and stuff them into the tote bag Katsuki got you for your birthday last year. “There it is,” you smile lightly, grabbing the hot cheetos and stuffing them into the bag as well before heading over to the house next door.
You approach the door, knocking this time, and are greeted with a worried Masaru opening it. He gives you a look like he wants to say thank God, but knows it isn’t a good idea. “Hello Y/N,” he opens the door wider and steps out of the way. “How was your day?”
You give him a polite smile as you enter the familiar house, “It was fine, we got to try on our hero costumes which was nice. I am very happy with the way mine turned out.” You begin to walk the familiar path to Katsuki’s room, “He in there?” You ask lightly and receive a nod in return.
You stop in front of his door, knock three times, and enter without waiting for a response. Your blonde boy looks up from his spot on his bed with a pissed off expression before he notices it’s you. The expression still stays, but lessens ever so slightly.
You close the door lightly and turn to him while holding up the bag and taking out the hot cheetos. You throw it at him before placing the bag with the rest of the snacks on the floor in front of him. You study him as you flop down to take a seat next to the blonde, who is now moving to sit up.
You take the remote from his bedside table and turn on his tv. “Make yourself at home, why don’t you.” Katsuki grumbles, but his words mean nothing as he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you so you’re lying on his chest in an awkward half sitting half laying position. He is being softer than he has been in a while, and you think this is his way of apologizing for snapping at you earlier.
“We should talk about today.” You state as you relaxed into him. Once you are satisfied with what is playing on the tv, you lift your head to look up at him.
He sighs, eyes focused on the screen before him, “Later.”
“‘Later’ means never. I’m not stupid.”
“I don’t know about that.” His smirk is lighter now then it has been for the majority of the day so you decide to let it slide.
“Whatever, have it your way. But I am here if you want to talk.” He simply huffs in acknowledgement and continues to watch the screen. A little bit into whatever film you put on the two of you decide to dig into the snacks, and Katsuki murmers into your ear, “Good job with your win, by the way.”
You flash him a proud smile, “I did have a good win, didn’t I.” he doesn’t acknowledge your words, just takes another bite from the snack. A later after that Mitsuri comes in to let you know it’s time to get going to your own home. You get up, much to Katsuki’s chagrin, and give him a light peck on the cheek and a kind, “Goodbye.” As you leave his room, and house, to go to your own.
You walk into your room, only then realizing how late it is, and decide you might as well go to sleep. You go through the motions like brushing your teeth and plugging your phone in before finally lying down and wrapping yourself in your blankets and going to sleep for the night.
