Krishna Vaasudeva - Bani Basu - 18
This is just a partial summary, all the magic is purely Dr. Basu’s!
The elders are all discussing the mess of the syamantaka. Vasudeva is angry that everyone still suspects Krishna of having stolen it after Krishna killed Shatadhanva. He is also mad that anytime something happens these people complain to Balram, who takes any criticisn against Krishna as a personal failure and then takes it out on his brother.
Satyaki warns them that they are pushing Krishna away from the Yadavas and themselves towards destruction in Krishna’s subsequent absence. He points out that Krishna hasn’t attended any sabhas after the Narakasura mess, and that he spent the last six months with the Pandavas and has locked himself in his house ever since he came back.
Now the elders are mad that when Krishna goes swimming at the beach, some of the Narakasura women also go with him and his wives. Satyaki emphasised that Krishna isn’t one to go back on his word, and since he’s promised to take care of them, he is going to, no matter who says what.
Now they are mad at Satyaki because he is a ‘modern’ boy and he is about to explain exactly what happens between a man and a woman if they are left alone in a romantic mood. Satyaki also suggests, sarcastically, that some spies could sent to collect information about Krishna and his wives and the elders are welcome to embark on detailed research projects with the data collected.
Finally, they decide they will summon both Krishna and Akroora to clear the air on the gem. Krishna makes Akroora give a bland explanation on why he deposited it into the treasury, after which he suggests they open a museum type thing and create a new revenue source by charging people to come see it.
Akroora has now invited Krishna for a dinner. Satyabhama is mad she is not invited. Rukmini insists she wouldn’t go even if she were invited, and she’d dodge it by lying. Krishna is very amused.
Later, Krishna is surprised to see he’s the only invited, and Akroora forces a glass of wine in his hand and declares that his nephew is here for dinner.
Akroora confesses that he was jealous of Krishna’s rising popularity, his favour with the ladies and a little frustrated at no longer being able to control them two brothers. He confesses that Satyabhama’s rejection in favour of Krishna is what pushed him over the edge and hence he plotted to take out Satyabhama’s father and disgrace her husband in one solid blow.
Krishna forgives him and they start drinking and talking about the olden days. We also learn that Krishna’s drunk personality is just laughing unceasingly uncontrollably. Finally, Akroora’s wife makes him drink a glassful of tamarind and confiscated all their liqueur because she’s afraid Krishna will crash his chariot on the street if he cannot stop laughing.

Arjun mildly traumatises a bunch of animal-skin traders with his sudden appearance looking for Parashuram’s ashram. He is completely taken by the sea; he’s seeing it for the first time.
Krishna found him, and now he is shaking him by the shoulder in happiness! Krishna says You are the water when I am thirsty; you are the one I want to give my heart and soul to! Did you have a dream about a desperate man crying out to you from the middle of the ocean?
He tells Arjun they should go visit Prabhas’s triveni sangam [Saraswati, Hiranya, Kapila] and Arjun is surprised since he didn’t know there were multiple.
Krishna says, there are many Triveni sangams but only one Arjun.
Arjun blushes and confesses why he’s here after all this time [the 12 years vanvas he’s on now].
Okay, then they complain about how non-aryan women keep forcing them to marry them (????). Basically, dissing Hidimba, Uloopi and Jambavati. But they love Satyabhama and Chitrangada.
Now they are pretending to be big feminist men on the Narakasura issue and somehow Vidur’s wife is involved. Arjun, however, to his credit, admits he wouldn’t marry the 16100 women in Krishna’s place.
Everyone is now shipping Krishna and Arjuna. Subhadra barely has a chance! All the girls are throwing garlands with the necks of Krishna and Arjun, and very quickly they start resembling modern touring politicians. Also, they are jumping up and down the chariot, because the wheels keep getting tangled with the garlands and they have to de-garland them. The only downside? More garlands keep getting added to their necks. People think Arjun is the king of Hastinapur.
And now they are dissing Draupadi swayamvara, retroactively. Accompanied by a very gay physical description of Arjuna and Krishna both. Krishna’s eyes are like a laughing bird.
Everyone is again shipping them and pointing out how much they are made for each other. Arjun is not listening to anyone (they are dissing him about accepting Khandava without a protest) and is completely enamoured with Krishna. NOW Arjun thinks he has a family.
He starts falling for Subhadra, and starts describing her in uncomfortable detail while also describing Krishna’s wives with uncomfortable detail. Dude really is confused which way to go. Now Krishna is sad that maybe, his duty is not to the Yadavas, but rather the Kurus.

Arjun is thinking. When their mother told them to go snatch their birthright, Yudhishthira had ‘the talk’ with them (yk the birds and the bees). Apparently, Dhritarashtra used to send women to seduce them from 11-12 years on. Bheema, when cornered by a woman (Kusumika) wanting to massage him, told her to send a wrestler instead. And Yudhisthira kept calling them Mothers and sending them to cook the most complicated recipes for them. Nakul is the one who first understood what exactly they wanted. Arjun was the most pathetic, he felt uncomfortable when they fed him and changed his clothes, but wouldn’t send them back lest they feel bad.
He admits that he doesn’t deserve Draupadi, which is why he got her 1/5th and part-time. He has apparently trained his body to ignore hunger and slumber because he wanted to better maximise himself with Draupadi. And he’s guilty for thinking about Subhadra but call her a child (I do not know where Dr. Basu’s mind is honestly, but her specialty is psychological horror only, so I probably should not judge).
He goes to Krishna to have breakfast, and Krishna reminds him that his attendant Chamoo is a big fan and warns him to remember to praise his efforts. Now he’s complaining that he doesn’t understand what love is, or if he even is capable of love, in equal parts confusing and amusing Krishna. Krishna says he understands him.
Krishna sees Arjun and Subhadra looking at each other and passes out on the road (okay he had a vision about divine them and his human body couldn’t take it).
When he comes to, Arjun and Subhadra are staring at him heads touching. He asks both of them if they truly love each other (haven’t had a conversation yet but ok I guess), if yes, he’ll do the rest. They agree.

Sarika is very amused that Rukmini isn’t the only self-kidnapper any more. Jambavati is also delighted. Subhadra is the only one who ever treated her as a fellow human, and she’s only mad Arjun didn’t kill all the Yadavas while he was at it. Also, she confesses that she doesn’t care, she is equally attracted to Arjun, and Krishna is even more amused. Her only concern here is that Arjun is really tall, and Subhadra is really short, so Krishna tells her to leave the logistics of that to the happy couple. She tells Krishna to have a pig roasted and wants dresses in all colours of the rainbow. Krishna agrees to it all, except for providing liqueur.
Satyabhama is more irritated about the never-talked-to-each-other part. Krishna reminds her that that’s exactly how they also got married. Satyabhama laments that she always dreamed of a cool prince on a horse and she only got a dark-skinned cowherd. Krishna is even more amused.
Rukmini cracks a rare joke about her own situation, saying that her brother was dead wrong in his choice but Subhadra’s brother might be a better judge of character.
Balaram is mad everyone is ready to fight Arjun and no one even called Krishna. Krishna then came yawning. Jambavati, Satyabhama and Sarika join forces to create an all-women-army to fight the Yadava army if needed.
Vasudev objects that Subhadra will have many co-wives. Krishna and Balaram laugh in his face, and everyone else backs off.
