Cat and a Plant

Right from the beginning I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the Krita Challenge “Cat and a Plant.” Back in the day I did a speed painting with a mouse resting underneath a potted plant. I basically wanted to recreate that painting with a cat instead.

This piece is definitely more defined than my original painting… and it’s a great painting for sure. But I must say the original has more charm than this piece.

TMNT - April O'Neil

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I was immensely happy that I got the chance to join the Character Design Challenge #86. The theme for that challenge was to redesign/create a fan art of TMNT. I chose April as my character that I wanted to "redo." As much as I love the high school student version of April O'Neil in the 2012 reboot, I still have a strong affinity for the older photojournalist version of the original series. Here is my version of the original April O'Neil.

Bamboo Hat Cyborg Arm

This was one of my first attempts at combining two DSP prompts into one. Typically I would paint one scene for one prompt. But for this particular speed paint, I decided to go “wild” and be out of the norm. I like the resulting simplicity of my experiment.

Tinikling

I am extremely excited I finally finished this piece I had been grinding on for a year. Technically I started the illustration sometime in 2016, but I dropped it until last year. I decided to pick this illustration up to redevelop it last summer. The illustration is of a popular Filipino dance, Tinikling. I could have chosen to be completely traditional and have all the elements look completely Pinoy, but I decided to add some Victorian fashion elements to spice things up.
