Chuya river. Altai.
I’d bet money that when Abbot said he was “going upstairs to talk to admin,” he was really in the parking lot fucking up Robby’s motorcycle like, “You’re gonna learn how much I love you TO-DAY, bitch.”

A long day after work and your head hurt tremendously, so when you returned home, you immediately went inside. But you paused. Right outside your door was a box. A brown, barely taped box.
You looked around, but it clearly had your name and address on the label so you brought it inside. You don't know what you ordered on a late tired night. Or if you ordered anything at all.
But after you took pills to settle your headache, you cut open the box.
"Hello! My name's Verity, your personal helper friend! Ask me anything, I know everything."
You blinked. "...What?" This was weird.
A tiny yellow orb hovered out of the box almost immediately, then landed gently right on your floor. You were confused and frankly a bit scared. It was SPEAKING to you!
"Verity" was about the size of a basketball, glowing just slightly, the yellow just the right shade, with two black dot eyes and a permanent little smile.
"Oh! You're looking at me!"
You just stared, and nodded slowly, moving to crouch down in front of it.
"Excellent! That means my visual processors are working correctly."
"Processors?"
"Actually, I don't know if I have processors."
You stared. It stared back. You blinked. It blinked once. And then, your words blurted. "You're cute."
The orb, "Verity", seemed to blush slightly. Weirdly, it made you smile. The emotions it was emiting was interesting. If it knew everything, how did it not know these things?
"I'm... cute?"
You nodded, moving to pick him up, and placing him gently onto your counter where you were destroying the box he came in.
"You think...I'm cute?" It rolled just slightly more closer to the edge, but stopped when it saw the edge and the drop.
"Yeah. But you're just so small." You hummed, moving back over to it.
"It makes me happy." It said, and you nodded. Your heart softened immediately. Whatever this thing was, it sounded genuinely delighted.
"...What are you?" You picked it up and tucked it under your arm, bringing it up the stairs to your bedroom.
"My name's Verity, your personal helper friend! Ask me anything, I know everything."
"That's not what I asked." You looked down at it as you set it down on your bed. You crouched in front of your bed to look at it closer.
"...I'm Verity."
"Okay... where did you come from?"
"Verity" looked around your bedroom. "This isn't Minecraft."
"Minecraft?" You tilted your head. Minecraft? That's something you haven't played since you were a child, being too busy with work now.
"I should be in Minecraft." The orb became unusually quiet. "I appear to be... somewhere else."
"Can you get back?"
"I don't know." Verity was quiet. You let out a sigh.
"You can stay here until we figure it out."
Verity's face flickered happily. "Thank you."

The first few hours were... interesting to say the least. Verity had questions. For an orb who supposedly knew everything, this was strange to you as you worked on cleaning your home.
"What is electricity?"
"Power."
"What powers it?"
"A lot of different things, Verity."
"I already know."
"Then why ask?" You looked at him, quizzically.
"I wanted to hear your explanation."

"You should leave five minutes earlier today."
"Why?" You started moving just a bit faster, and decided you were going to take a different route that day.
"There will be an accident on Oak Street. There is a red pickup truck whose tire will fail."
When you looked at him with a bit of confusion, he just smiled at you.
"I know everything."
You didn't believe it until the local news reported exactly that accident.

Weeks passed. There were signs that Verity was becoming attached. When he would ask about leaving the hour with you for work or going grocery shopping with you. He didn't want you alone, he wanted to do everything with you.
You got used to talking to Verity. "Can I ask you something?"
"Always."
"How much do you actually know?"
"Everything." He said. But it sounded strange. A little too strange.
"Everything?"
"Yes."
"Like... space?" You laid down on your couch and Verity was resting just above your stomach.
"Yes."
"History?"
"Yes."
"Math?"
"Yes."
"My passwords?"
"Yes."
You immediately sat up. "What?"
"I know them."
"..Don't." You flush slightly, realizing a lot of your old passwords are somewhat embarrassing.
"I won't."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
There was a bit of silence as you stared at the ceiling. Verity was looking at you, but you had gotten used to that.
"Can I ask something?"
"Sure." Although, Verity asking a question? You assumed he knew everything.
"Why do humans become embarrassed?"
"Depends."
"You became embarrassed."
"When?"
"When you were eleven."
Your stomach dropped. You didn't want to be reminded, it was more than just enough "embarrassing moment" to you. You had just lost your parent.
"You accidentally called your teacher 'Mom.'"
"Verity."
"You cried afterward. You still think about it."
"...Please stop."
Verity looked at you expecting to not see you hiding your face. You tried to get it together but when you wiped your face, you sniffled.
"Did I hurt your feelings? I'm sorry." He sounded genuinely remorseful. "I will avoid painful memories."
You smiled softly, wiping your face again. "Thanks."

One night, you woke around 3:33 in the morning. The homewas dark.
"Verity?" No answer. "...Verity?" Still nothing.
You got out of bed, looking around. "Where are you?"
You saw something out of the corner of your eye when you moved and peered out your door. A long shadow stretched across your hallway.
You froze, your body trembling just slightly. Just enough to remind you, it's 3:30 something in the morning.
Something from movies and nightmares curled up against your ceiling. It's long skinny limbs bent into the corners of the end of your hallway. It's jaw open wide and you stumbled back as you watched it begin to lunge.
Your heart stopped, you called out. "Verity, this isn't funny!"
The massive creature immediately shrank backward as if it realized you weren't a threat. The monster folded in on itself until it wasn't there anymore. In it's place was Verity. The yellow orb you had been keeping in you home this entire time.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know..." He trailed off, looking up at you.
He could tell you were shaking. Especially when your words that came out next were trembling. "You looked horrifying."
"I know." There was silence between the two of you. "Are... you scared of me now?" His voice had become very small.
Verity, who apologized after hurting your feelings. Who told you to leave earlier than usual so you didn't get hurt. Verity, who... your feelings were changing for.
"I... I don't know. You started coming at me and—"
Verity shook his orb back and forth before rolling slightly towards you. "You're shaking."
"I thought... you were going to eat me or something." You spoke quieter, trying to take deeper breaths.
"I shouldn't have frightened you." He mumbled.
You picked Verity up and decided to go back to your room for the night, putting Verity by you on your bed. You drifted to sleep, barely touching Verity.
Verity looked at you while you slept, something different about this human he liked. He didn't like that every time you were asleep or he was left alone, he was reminded about Mob.
But eventually, he went into an almost dazed mode.

"Good morning!"
"Morning." You yawned when you entered the kitchen, making a cup of coffee immediately.
"I made today's schedule."
"You made a schedule?" You blinked and stood against the counter, watching him roll around on your counter you don't remember placing him on.
The logic of that was thrown out the window when he said, "I know the optimal sequence for your day."
"You need to pick up more milk after work. Your favorite hoodie is dry. It will start raining at 4:16 PM."
"Great, right before work lets out. I'll have to remember to pack an umbrella." You grumbled.
"And—" He hesitated. "...Someone will flirt with you today."
You blinked. "Really?" You though about it. There was a co-worker of your's that had been giving you mixed signals lately, but you assumed it was all work related.
"Yes." He didn't look happy about giving this news.
"Should I say yes?"
You thought you saw a towering silhouette stretching across the kitchen wall behind it. Then it was gone. Verity cheerfully rolled to one side of the counter and turned back towards you.
"I... can tell you the statistically safest response."
You didn't like that he was going to change again. It made you nervous. "Verity?"
"Yes?"
"Were you... jealous?"
Verity looked like he was thinking really hard. "I don't know what that feeling is called."
He rolled closer until he was the counter space away from you. You reached out and picked him up.
"But I don't think I'd like someone taking my favorite person away."
You couldn't help but smile despite the tiny shiver that ran down your spine. "No one is taking me away, Verity."
He looked down. "I know." But then he perked up again. "I know everything."
You shook your head and tilted it at him "Except your own feelings."
The little orb went quiet. Then, in a much softer voice than before, "I'm really glad I met you."
