I had surgery a couple of years ago. It was minor. But before I went in I read this pamphlet that said one in every thousand surgical patients still feels pain under anesthesia. Most people just drift off and wake up with one less tumor or appendix or leg. But some people feel every slice. They have hands digging around in their chest cavities or wherever. But they're trapped, completely immobile. Can't even scream. I didn't feel anything when I was under. But I kind of think the one in a thousand is lucky. I mean, at least they're aware. The rest of us? We just sleep. Completely oblivious of what's being taken from us.

hands-down most interesting madelaine has been to me!!!! the digging into her perpetual teenager attitude focused on having fun & deflecting blame/hard work, and what that looks like when the stakes are this high!! i have such a tragedy soft spot for self-preservation instinct winning over genuinely moral causes, it's so sympathetic & frustrating every timee

& in the same vein as madelaine, i'm so obsessed with what Lavonte is dealing with right now!!! like The System in no way has worked as great for him as a Black man the way it has for a white girl like madelaine, like this post points out based the events of ep 1, which i'd argue carries through to the recent Camarilla confrontation in ep 10!

of course he'd resent the Camarilla's overbearing scolding of everything they consider him to have done wrong, whether or not it's actually his fault or not. it makes total sense for him to be torn over an offer for a higher position somewhere else, where he might not face constant criticism/genuine threats to his life, even at the cost of sacrificing his personal investment/ambitions for Purpee.

mmm helena's question abt their interest in the town is so good bc like. they Don't have an end goal they can tell people! i mean, the end goal is "achieve our tasks set by vampire rulers so we can get back to san francisco" like yeah they've drifted into wanting to help genuinely, but are still being governed by the list which implies the end goal is still to return to San Francisco!
