ranking fablehaven acronyms
1. fh - classic, simple, lovely, a tad obscure to the outsider. 8/10
2. RotES - amazing, really gives off the vibe with the r beginning and the s at the end. lovely, easy to distinguish 9/10
3. GotSP - don’t see this often. almost sounds like a word. has a charm that fits with the book. 7/10
4. SotDS - concludes the streak of “ot”, but maintains its own unique vibe. not particularly fond however 6/10
5. KttDP - classic that you’ll find on any post. easy to distinguish. classy. 7/10
6. dw - not fond. looks like don’t worry. would be a 5 but cool when combined into “fhdw” 6/10
7. WotDK - this one is different from the rest and I like it. starts off with a strong W and ends with an equally strong K. 8/10
8. MotPI - my baby. I saw this acronym, nay, this title, and said yes. makes a straight shape with the M and I and is aesthetically pleasing. 10/10
9. CotTG - nice and simple. spawned a joke “cottage cheese” that no other fablehaven acronym had. spunky. 8/10
10. RotDS - what is this? disgusting. this is literally RotES. I will never be able to differentiate between the two and it will haunt me. knock off of the glorious RotES. 0/10
I've been thinking about the artifacts and have decided to try and break down how I think they work.
Five artifacts, the font of immortality, the translocator, the chronometer, the Oculus, and the sands of sanctity.
Starting with the font.
Obvious answer for how it keeps them alive is unicorn horn, magic, tada. And yeah, but why need to drink it weekly? Do you die if you don't? If you drink from it once are you forever doomed to have to drink from it or drop dead? Even if your 20 and only drank it the first time?
I think the font is basically a constant source of healing. The super serum in marvel, it basically increases cell growth, holds it in check, they don't die while the font is in effect. And, like medicine, if you don't drink the font, it stops doing that. All the years that were missed hit at once, and the cells age instantly to what they would've been, (or perhaps not quite instantly, but close enough to it).
But going off this, if you're old enough you'd die, you're body would age fully to past your death and you'd crumble away to dust. If you're young enough you might just go from 20 to 50, or suddenly gain a few weeks. Depending on how long you've been drinking from it.
But that's my theory for how the font functions.
Next, the translocator.
I don't have as much for it, it basically seems to work off of memory and bringing you back to a place you've once been. You had to be there before, so it's less finding the place you've seen, and more... Tracing your path?
It's only going to where you've been, maybe magic holds a memory of everywhere you've been and the translocator can pick up on it? Otherwise if you had a good picture then you could just hold that in your memory and it should take you. Since it doesn't I think it has to link it to something based around you, and not just knowledge of the place.
Then the chronometer, the most mysterious of the items really.
You can go forward in time, you can go back, you can make others bring you forward, how far can you go? No one knows. Is it really just based on your age? Or is it based on the memory of your age? Is it taking you back to time when there's already an imprint of you? Does it rely on it? Or can you have someone olders dna and use that as the base? Do you need a base at all? Does it only bring living things back? Or only organic? Is five people a real limit? Could you also bring an animal? Or would the animal count as a person?
So many questions, so few answers. Oh why have you forsaken me books. I need to know more to build theories for how it really functions. (a few ideas are sprinkled in the questions but without more info I really can't do better)
Now the Oculus!
This one I actually think is pretty basic in how it works. I think it works off of light.
The reason you see everywhere and everything is because the Oculus let's you see everything that light shines on (yes like the lion king).
So if there was a room pitch black, no light at all, then the Oculus can't see in. But otherwise, any light, even an extremely dim room that is humans can't see in, the Oculus can still let you see in, even if you won't actually be able to see anything.
Hence why it's so overwhelming, there's basically some form of light most anywhere, very few places are truly pitch black. So just one room, light shines on everything, I'd get a headache from just that. Much less more.
Finally we end with the sands of sanctity.
The sands heal, and we have no idea where this healing came from. Is it a little faith, trust, and pixie dust? Is it based on fairy powers like unicorns? What is it!
Idk, but it does heal, almost turns back time entirely on the injuries. Closest idea for me is something to do with Phoenix's, or some sort of cat magic I don't know of (shaped like a cat, nine lives, maybe it rewinds to give you another life).
With Phoenix's, well we know they exist in fablehaven canon, they're mentioned in the keys to the demon prison. Phoenix's are supposed to be able to heal anything with their tears, but that wouldn't line up with the whole, gold dust thing. Other than Phoenix's being traditionally drawn in red and gold usually.
With cat magic of unknown origin, I'd say it's giving another life. Cats have nine lives, so maybe the magic would be limited. Yes it can heal normally, but fully fatal wounds, you get eight fixes of those. Cause cats have nine lives including their first one. Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in magic cats so I couldn't say what this power might be based around there.
And there we have it, my breakdown of the artifact keys, done when I'm supposed to be sleeping cause insomnia.
i’m chill with the plan that bracken and patton came up for Zzyzx, it worked well. but….
i would have KILLED to see OP seth and his army of prisoners from the hall of dread fighting the demons.
