Cartoon Network Turkey's new original animated series "Kucho" (about the titlular dog character that can teleport anywhere with his paw) has a little Adventure Time reference on Keday's (Kitty, one of his street friends) game console! (in episode 10)
@cranefeatherz , I know it’s a few days late but I said I would write it so here!
Hiroki rolled his eyes at his younger brother, "Why couldn't you just ask Dad what he wanted?"
Norio sighed adjusting his vest, "He said he needed to see you right away. It sounded important so I just came to get you instead of wasting time prying. Papa said to go to his office, even if you're busy."
Hiroki scoffed at the fourteen-year-old, "Fine, tell big brother I'll be late for training then."
Norio nodded, "Consider it done. We might wait to start training if he thinks you won't be gone long."
Hiroki chuckled, ruffling the small boy's hair, "Tell him to start anyway, he and Yodo have date night tonight so he'll want to end training quickly anyways."
Hiroki frowned as he pulled his cloak over his shoulders. He wondered what his dad would need from him. Once he reached the door to the office, he took a moment to think, trying to figure out what he could have done to get himself in trouble while their mother was away on her diplomatic mission.
“You aren’t in any trouble Hiroki.”
Hiroki jumped at the familiar voice, “Mum, you’re back early! How was Kiri? Did you give Kucho my gift?”
His green eyes narrowed when her smile faltered, “We will talk about my trip with your father, come on.”
Hiroki was confused, he wondered if she had been attacked in Kiri by the way she tensed at the mention of her trip. He sighed trying to relieve his nerves as he entered.
“Norio said you wanted to see me, Dad?”
Gaara’s tired teal eyes met his worried green, “Take a seat.”
Hiroki stiffened, watching Hinata sit beside where Gaara wanted him to sit, they never asked him to sit down when they wanted to talk to him.
“I’d rather stand, what’s going on?”
Hinata glanced at him, “Hiroki, please come sit with me.”
It took him a few minutes to finally cave, he settled beside his mother quickly glancing between her and Gaara.
Gaara placed a scroll on his desk, “Your mother was in Kiri for a mission, she returned early due to complications. There was an attack on Kiri while she was there.”
Hiroki’s eyes widened as he turned to look over his mother, “You weren’t hurt, right? Kucho sai-”
“She is unharmed, but there were a number of casualties.”
Hiroki stiffened, “But if Mum is ok, why did you want to meet with me? If it’s a mission to go help shouldn’t Shinki be here too?”
Hinata slowly wrapped her arms around him, “Just listen Hiroki, please.”
Hiroki was more confused as he looked up at his father, trying to find answers. To his dismay, Gaara couldn’t meet his eyes, glancing back at the scroll.
“Kokakucho was among those casualties. I’m so-”
“That can’t be.”
His voice was quiet, he couldn’t look at either of them, there was no way it was the truth.
“Hiroki, I understand not wanting it to be true, but the Mizukage has assured me it was investigated before I was informed.”
Hinata gently rubbed his back, “I saw him after Hiroki, with his fathers, I confirmed it myself after helping Hiname to see if we could save him, but he had been gone before we even got to him...”
Hiroki quickly pulled away from Hinata, he heard them call his name as he ran, but he refused to stop. He needed to get away. He made his way to the roof, finding a small shady spot before curling up. Hiroki buried his head in his knees as he let the tears fall. He didn’t want to believe it, but they wouldn’t lie about something like this.
-
“He’s crying on the roof...I think he needs a little space to process it. I can stay here and keep an eye on him with my byakugan if you wouldn’t mind going to tell Shinki, Norio, and Kinji, they’ll need to know why their brother is acting differently.”
Gaara nodded, hating that they couldn’t just fix things. He felt helpless as he made his way to the training ground. He felt terrible knowing Hinata had bonded with Hiname over their sons, he had just secured a better alliance in hopes of building a climate where the two boys could be together if they chose that final route. Now his son was crying on his own mourning the boy he had opened up to. When he reached the grounds, he waved to Shinki, who moved to stop their training.
“Father, is everything alright?”
Gaara shook his head as he finally stood in front of the three boys, “No, we must talk.”
He watched Shinki place his hands on Kinji and Norio’s shoulders to support them, “This has to do with Hiroki?”
Gaara nodded slowly, “His friend, Kokakucho, died protecting his village. I just informed him, and he is having a rough time with the news.”
Kinji’s grey eyes widened as he covered his mouth, “Kucho’s dead?!”
Norio’s blue eyes narrowed, he was furious, Kokakucho promised not to hurt his big brother, but now here he was, dying on him. He watched Kinji move forward into Gaara’s arms for comfort while he cried for the boy they had started to accept as not going anywhere. He didn’t know what to do, what to say, he was just mad.
Shinki noticed the odd expression on Norio’s face, but decided he’d bring it up to the boy later, “I should go talk with Hiroki, he needs someone right now.”
Gaara shook his head, “Your mother has said it is best to leave him be for now. She returned early from her mission to share the news. She didn’t want Hiroki alone when he was told. He is on the roof right now. Once he has accepted that this is what has happened, then you may go and comfort him.”
-
Hiroki heard the noise of familiar footsteps after the sun had set. He knew he wouldn’t be left alone for long.
“We’re worried about you, little brother, you haven’t come down from here for eight hours.”
Hiroki scoffed, “Leave me alone, I just want to sit here.”
Shinki settled beside him, “Isolating yourself will not help. How about you talk to me?”
Hiroki glared at him over his knees, “I don’t want to talk about it!”
Shinki sighed, “Hiroki, I’m just trying to h-”
Hiroki stood suddenly, “I don’t want your help! Kucho is gone! You can’t bring him back, so you can’t help me!”
Shinki slowly stood, allowing his sand coat to leave him as he watched his sixteen-year-old brother closely. He had underestimated how much the boy had meant to him, sure he knew the two were dating, he wasn’t that good at hiding his feelings as he liked to think, but he hadn’t expected his reaction to be like this.
“I just want to be left alone!”
Shinki roughly pulled the boy to him in a tight hug, “Don’t lock us out Hiroki, we want to be here for you, but you need to let us.”
-
Gaara sighed as he finally approved of the wording of his message for Kokakucho’s parents, he had struggled to find the words to convey how sorry he was for their loss. It had been a week since the news, and he was starting to feel like he had lost his son as well. Hiroki had refused to talk, went off to train on his own, only ate by himself, it seemed not even Hinata or Shinki could get through to the boy.
He glanced up at the sudden noise of his office door opening, “Yes?”
Hiroki walked in, meeting his teal eyes, “I want to register for the jounin exams.”
Gaara’s eyes widened as he glanced at his son, “Shinki hasn’t mentioned this.”
Hiroki continued to meet his eyes, “I want to become Anbu. I want to serve this village like Kucho served his. If you won’t let me take steps towards doing so, I will leave this village. If I’m unqualified by the test's standards then I will train harder to pass it.”
Gaara sighed, there was a coldness to the green eyes meeting his, he didn’t like it. He was worried about his son. He’d have a family meeting with the others later to discuss the situation, but for now, he’d play along.
“I will make arrangements for you to take the exam, but I must talk to Shinki and Hinata first to verify that your skills are ready for the exam.”
How does Hiroki react to his baby brothers growing up? And how do Norio and Kinji react to Hiroki showing a romantic interest in someone and then dating them?
Hiroki is both proud of his brothers as they get older and afraid of being left behind. He fears they won't need him anymore as they get older.
Norio hates it, he absolutely is against his brother's interest in Kucho. He fears his brother will be hurt and feels that Kucho is taking his brother from them. It takes him a long time to warm up to him and trust that it's what Hiroki wants. He reluctantly accepts it when they officially start dating.
Kinji was mad that Hiroki tried to hide it, but was excited that his brother was opening up to someone who wasn't family. He was cautious of Kucho because he was from another village and finds his brother's tastes strange but he supports them because it makes him happy.
“I meant it when I said I would protect you.” //Kucho @ hiroki (but like imagine if Kucho got seriously hurt because he was protecting Hiroki
"Kucho! Damnit you don't need to protect me! We're a team you idiot!"
Hiroki stood frozen as his wide green eyes took in Kucho's wounded form, he had hoped the attack missed him. He could feel the burning of his chakra as it churned within him when he realised it hadn't missed Kucho.
Blinking he quickly turned to see the enemy ninja approaching them. He was furious. He was angry Kucho protected him, angry someone hurt Kucho, and angry that he hadn't managed to protect him. He did what he knew he wasn't supposed to, he let his anger take over and he used the jutsu he had been told never to use.
He took a moment to take in the sound of their enemies' screams as they melted in his mist, he didn't care. He met the eyes of the man who had been the one to hurt Kucho, keeping his cold gaze locked with the dying man's until there was nothing left to look at. He wanted him to suffer for what he had done.
//Lol I'm so sorry Kucho!!!!!! Hiroki would never be the same!
Hiroki would hate himself for it, he'd never truly recover but he'd save Shinki first and try his best to save Kucho right after, he'd have to be dragged home afterwords probably clinging to him refusing to let go and hoping he'd be ok even though he knows it's too late
Norio wouldn't hesitate to save Shinki first, he isn't really fond of Kucho for stealing his brother away from their family
Kinji would try to save both but when it was obvious he could only save one he'd beg Kucho for forgiveness and save Shinki, he likes Kucho and would hate for his brother to lose him but he puts his brothers health before anyone elses
