So I went into a haunted house today
Exactly what it sounds like: there’s an abandoned 16th century house close to where I live and I’ve been obsessed with it for years. I always walk past it on my way to work and I have been dying with curiosity as to how it is inside. So tonight I was with a couple of artists and organisers who were getting stuff ready for Thursday* and after they were done with my stuff they were going over to the Drie Haringhe (the three herrings) to finish off installing another Artist’s video.
The Drie Haringhe is this building, the building I’m obsessed with:
It is completely abandoned and neglected. You wouldn’t say that a building as beautiful as this is just standing there with nothing in it in the city centre, right in the hustle and bustle of all the restaurants, but it is!!
And I went INSIDE!!
I couldn’t make a lot of pictures partly because of the vibes and partly because I only had my phone. BUT there is a stone sarcophagus in the cellar and a well big enough for Sadako to come crawling out. Unfortunately I do not have a photograph of the sarcophagus, but I do have the well:
It is also still filled with water. And probably been there since the early middle ages.
I have a very shitty flash photograph of the cellar but it’s really out of focus (the ghosts probably wouldn’t let me get a better pic)
And here’s a nice photograph of the fireplace in the main room:
Best Halloween ever
*I am participating in an event called Weerlicht which are basically video installations projected throughout the city. My own film, De Rode Kast (The Red Closet) will be projected on the wall of the Menstraat 1 which will also be the first time it’ll be shown publicly!
