Kupocon has come and gone. Feels like I sit excited for ages and then it's gone in a blur... But I guess that's just how life goes 😔

I got to meet all my friends, and hand out my own little gifts of Valentines bags and cards. I'm glad they were received so well!

Special mention to the artists I met:

@cosmicseashanty you are so adorable! I will treasure your WoL's valentine in my scrapbook and eventually I will procure all the FF16 keychain charms (if I don't get all the FF7R ones first!)

@noctglaive it was great to see you again! I need to get more art prints from you soon, I just need some nice frames for them all 💖

@kingcael what a sweet gem you are, sir! And your partner looked amazing as Balthier (and makes me incredibly jealous that he can cosplay Nyx and make it look so effortless, I'm sure). Me constantly fishing out your merch to show you was so embarrassing for me but I'm glad it was received so well, it was so wholesome to see your reaction.

okay i am finally back home and somewhat settled after kupocon this weekend! it was my first time going and i had so much fun. a long and disorganised collection of thoughts:

kupocon does this thing where you get a little quest log book and can complete hunts/quests (e.g. 'take a photo of 3 people cosplaying the same character', 'take a video of a clive cosplayer yelling 'come to me ifrit', 'find the 5 frogs plushies hidden around the venue', etc) and i looooved this, i think it's such a fun idea and i wish more cons did it

when you complete quests you can redeem them for gil (which was actually super well produced 'fake' money notes, very nice paper texture and designs) and then you can spend gil on loads of different merch, which is neat, but honestly more than that i think that just having an excuse to talk to people and gather groups for photos and stuff. nice icebreaker!

you could also get gil by interacting in different games and activities stuff on the sunday, i passed on this because my shoes were killing my mobility slightly but it was fun just to watch those as an audience member

another cool interactive thing was that you get given 2 tokens to give out to your favourite cosplays (with the winners being crowned at the end of the day) which i also thought was a cool idea, although trying to narrow down just 2 people to pick was supremely stressful. too many talented people. 4 people gave me one of their tokens which was insane to me because i was like..... out of everyone??? really?? but still even if i doubted their judgement a little bit it was very sweet so thank you guys ❤️

EVERYONE WAS SO NICE. like genuinely everyone from the vendors to the volunteers and VA guests and other attendees, everyone was overwhelmingly kind and respectful and happy to chat. the atmosphere was super warm all round

i got to take part in a wol sticker exchange / trinket trade for the first time! yay yippee

in the ffxiv VA panel found out some crucial pieces of info: 1) estinien's VA has been covertly (i.e. not streaming it like colin) (yes he clarified this explicitly) playing through the game and is currently at the end of stormblood and is enjoying it 2) one of the prompts thancred's VA was given when he was auditioning for thancred was 'an older more weary cary elwes from the princess bride' 3) thancred's VA was talking about how he got mailed after the audition and literally all of the other VA's were like 'what are you talking about? you got mailed? like physical mail? how old are you? none of us got mailed'

i did not do any of the autograph/photo stuff but it seemed well organised and good vibes and reasonable prices compared to what i've seen at places like MCM

here was my final haul of STUFF, the vast majority of this was either gifted to me or traded for at the trinket exchange, the bag and stuff under it on the very right being my artist alley or gil goods:

there was also an artist with a gorgeous amaurot print that i wanted but i couldn't buy there because i was worried about rain and travel destroying it BUT i loved it so that's gonna be a purchase for me next paycheque so imagine that here in spirit

i didn't take part in any of the evening stuff so can't comment on that but as far as the main days go i would highly recommend kupocon from my experience. in a world where i feel like bigger conventions are getting increasingly commercialised and distant for the average attendee, this felt like a real breath of fresh air, and it was so lovely just getting to chat about my nerdy final fantasy stuff with people irl who are just as if not more enthusiastic than i am ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

wore my neo-ishgardian gear for kupocon yesterday and beforehand i was like hmm i mean there’s gonna be ffxiv fans there will probably be a couple people who recognise that’s the game it’s from at least, probably not the specific name or anything, idk it’s just one gear set in a massive catalogue though, is that too obscure. and then literally all day people were like 🫵 NEO-ISHGARDIAN. I HAVE THAT GLAM. GOOD GLAM.
