I, like a lot of people around my age like to, as my grandparents would call it “disfigure my body with holes and jewels”.
Dubai, due to some new stricter laws, isn't a place where it’s too easy to get anything pierced anymore.
For a few years now, i’ve been “going through this phase” and finally managed to sway my dad to let me get another piercing, so i thought it’d be straight forward and I’d just go to the same clinic I’d always been to, The Rosary Clinic, which is just in The Springs.... Apparently that was demolished a few years ago, who would’ve known?
So, I looked online for other places and got a few results...
(Although I ended up getting these particular piercings done on a whim in market in Turkey this summer at a dodgy stall by an old man using a prehistoric looking gun, so I didn't need any of my research)
My research came in handy though after my dad caved and agreed to me being able to get my nose pierced.
So, during the winter holidays, I went to Kyra Clinic in the Gold and Diamond Park to get it done.
The minute I was told I could get it done, I went and booked the first 20 minute appointment I could get, it was at 10:00am the next day.
Two of my friends came along with me and we probably searched for the clinic for a good 45 minutes before finally being told we were in the wrong building. We were in Building 1, the workshop building, whereas the actual clinic was in Building 2. Once we figured this out, it was smooth sailing, we walked in, I told the receptionist I had had an appointment for 10 but had gotten a little lost, she said this “happened all the time” and took me through to the room.
I had the area where and around the piercing would be sterilised, picked out which jewellery i wanted (all the jewellery is medical grade titanium or steel, so 100% hypoallergenic and nickel free and prices range from AED250 to AED450, inclusive of the actual procedure itself). The piercing was not performed with a needle, which was what I had mentally prepared myself for, and not with a gun but a sort of hybrid between the two. It didn't really hurt, though it definitely hurt more than a lobe piercing and it made my right eye water.
My main worry all throughout the process were my mum and my two friends trying to make me giggle, and me wobbling and making the piercers’ job difficult.
As of yet, it’s healing nicely and I’ve experienced no issues, so I would definitely recommend Kyra clinic for anyone thinking of getting anything done.
(They even provide you with the novelty ‘Certificate of Bravery’ after it’s over to make you feel extra macho)
