Oooh, and you ALSO invited me to talk about one of my girls??👀 This ask just keeps getting BETTER!!
🦋Let's talk about D'Vorah then!🐝
A bit on her lore:
Kytinns are one big hive, telepathically connected to the Hive Queen,
But they are also their own individual hives. Each Kytinn can grow diverse swarms of insects and larvae within them. They are their children and also part of them, so they are treated with care!
Kytinns refer to themselves as "this one" as in "this one individual hive" while the Queen refers to herself as "We" as she speaks for all Kytinns!
As Princess, D'Vorah is still "this one" and is mainly responsible for her own individual hive. It is expected of her that her hive becomes one of the most powerful, so she proves herself capable of protecting the Great Hive!
D'Vorah wasn't born royalty. Kytinn princesses are made princesses by the queen. They are chosen based on the strength of their individual hives!
The current queen is called Al'Sheva!
The Kytinn live in the Arnyek Islands on the coast of Zaterra!
The Zaterrans and the Kytinn have a terrible relationship, so they mostly keep themselves off the other's territory!
The Kytinn hives are built underground. Going inside feels like stepping into another world!
To avoid predators, the Kytinn found a way to never leave the underground: using a magical stone called Delia's Gemstone. When used properly, this gem can emulate the sun and provide light and warmth!
The only problem is that these gems don't last forever and have to be replaced, and eventually, they will run out!
D'Vorah took the mission to venture out of the Arnyek Islands and find a way to keep the gemstone's magical light alive!
She knew there was something out there that could help her or... someone
I love young Prince Kotal's design ngl!
Now a bit about her relationships:
Prince Kotal:
He's D'Vorah's favourite non-Kytinn person!
The Osh-Tekk don't think highly of Kytinn, but as they live far away and hardly see each other, Kotal never really had an opportunity to formulate his own opinion on the insectoids.
When he met D'Vorah, he was very confused because his entire life he heard of how unsettling and even disgusting the Kytinn could be, and yet, he found himself mesmerised by D'Vorah's unique looks!
But her looks were just a bonus. What really captivated him was her tenacity! She needed him and his power to help her people, and she would stop at nothing until she got it! She tried to fight him, kidnap him, bargain with him, and she just wouldn't quit! And he just kept wondering why she didn't just... ask for his help!
At first D'Vorah didn't like Kotal, it infuriated her how she couldn't best him (a warrior with double her size, strength and power, lol) but there was something else, she wouldn't admit it but there was something entertaining in fight him and the way he looked at her wasn't so bad either!
Lady Jade:
Lady Jadesmin IV of the House of Joya (Jade for shorts) was Kotal's arranged bride, and he hated her. He hated that he couldn't choose his own bride (ahem D'Vorah) and hated to be used as a bargain in someone's political game.
So D'Vorah (who was already Kotal's friend at this point) hated Jade by association.
Little did they know Jade hated this arrangement just as much! She didn't want to be anyone's bride. She wanted to fulfil her destiny and truly make a difference in her kingdom!
She wanted to be a Umgadi warrior!
Once their situations were cleared out and they understood Jade wasn't so bad (and vice versa), they all became friends!
They started to come up with a plan that would help Jade become an Umgadi and allow Kotal to officially form an alliance with D'Vorah that would let him help her more with her Delia's Gems problem and also allow them to be together!
Regarding how Jade perceives D'Vorah, she definitely wouldn't call her "mesmerising" as Kotal does, but she can see past D'Vorah's looks and appreciate her!
She is supportive of RoyalBug 100%! (Even though she doesn't love to 3rd wheel, lol)
They both admire each other's tenacity!
The rest of the Umgadi Girls:
Though D'Vorah isn't the gentlest creature in the realm, the girls are cool with her cause "any friend of our sister is a friend of ours!"
One time they worked together, it was to help Syzoth, Khameleon, and Tanith on their quest! D'Vorah didn't like to work with them, and vice versa, given the hostility between the Zaterrans and the Kytinn, but Jade and the girls made sure to keep the peace!
Harumi believes the Kytinn toxins can be used to make medical potions, but she's yet to convince D'Vorah to work with her!
