In 1976, Chevy Chase became the first Saturday Night Live regular to leave the show in search of greener pastures on the big screen. It turned out to be a good move for him, as he found immediate success with movies like Foul Play, Caddyshack, and the National Lampoon's Vacation franchise. But Chase's favorite character was the one that was first seen in theaters 40 years ago: Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, the undercover reporter with a thing for danger (and the L.A. Lakers). A couple of decades ago, Chase called the Fletch character and movies his favorite and most successful role. When we spoke to him just prior to the opening of Fletch Lives, Chase told us why he had such a natural affinity for the part.
